i think the incident earlier this week where a police force spent £30.000 to prove a woman guilty of driving whilst eating an apple(this included getting the police helicopter out twice to retrace her route).just about sums up the stupidity of the law in this country

It's getting dumber and dumber these days.

Why does everyone hate the police? who are the first people you ring if someone attacks you or you see a group of youths mugging an old lady?

If you do something against the law and get caught its tough luck. I bet everyone on this board breaks some kind of law everyday or at least at the weekend and gets away with it.

Ben your sister was over the drink drive limit in the driver seat of a car with the engine running? Doesnt that look just a bit guilty to you? The police were just doing their job, they didnt know she wasnt about to drive off or that you or your dad wouldnt have just came out of the pub and agreed with what she was saying just to get her out of trouble.

Its a shitty situation but you cant blame the police for doing their job.

sorry mate

Yes totaly agreed with you there.............She has broken the law but it will be a law I bet she wont break again to be honest it was really a stupid thing to do in the first place ...was she drunk or something baz.gif

by the book, the first people you think of are the police because they are the designated government funded organisation who's duty it is to deal with things like this.

in reality, you think "the police aren't interested in this and will get it wrong and be four months late if they are"

Mind you Ben hasn't been back to say what has happened since...

ok Alex "SENARIO"

Your a policeman you pass a car parked in a car park the driver is asleep at the wheel of the vehicle with the engine running, after waking her she tells you she was at a party with her family but decided she was tired so she returned to the car where it was a bit cold so she turned on the engine to keep warm and must have fallen asleep while she was waiting for the rest of her family to return to the car.

It is obvious she had been drinking.Do you

A. arrest her for being apparently drunk in charge of a vehilce?

B. Accept her excuse and walk away?

If you choose the latter and walk away and she suddenly drives off, oh god there's a member of your family crossing the road, she knocks them over !

Would'nt the shit hit the fan then because you didnt fulfil your duty towards the public?????

So if you ask me the police DID their job quite well

Futhermore I think this thread has gone way over the top if she has broken the law by being over the drink drive limit she has to pay the penalty END OF

...you use comon sense, realise she has driven no where and is indeed in a bad state, and either take her back inside to her family/friends, or take her to the station overnightto rest if her family/friends are not available or if she's too out of it to comment

furthermore you use a little bit of your police sense to realise that somewhere else in the city, a crime is in progress

majority of the thread has no impact whatsoever, like if everyone jumped of a cliff.

SITUATION: she had not driven anywhere

the police ASK her what was going on, if she's too out of it they TAKE HER TO THE STATION and save themselves a SHITLOAD of papework, then get her side of the story the next day.

no, what is more interesting if you like is that most of the replies on page 1 are "the police are shits" and most of the replies on page 2 are "she broke the law"

But what if SITUATION.. she had convinced them she was just sleeping & they accepted that & took her back inside the club or wherever, to save themselves the hassel of the paper work, to then get a call out an hour or so later to a huge pile up & poss deaths because she did actually get behind the wheel & drive in the end??

It is one of those things they can not take a risk on, people pissed ultimately think they are fine & drink driving is a crime & if she was sat in the drivers side whilst drunk then more fool her, as Mum states im sure she wont do it again in a hurry eh bigwink.gif
