The Techno Appreciation Thread.

Yep !  I am seriously loving Techno (of ALL forms).  Everytime I hear a good techno tune, it makes me realise EXACTLY WHY I like Techno and it's all about the percission FOR SURE.  But more to the point, I like how it's added and taken away to a and from a tune.  LAYERING if you will.  Techno tunes built up in uphoric layers of different percussion.   Shaney_Rs Techi CD has just inspired me to post this.  It's proper good.

 

Blimey - I LOVE TECHNO (funny thing is, this genre, YEARS ago, I used to HATE it. )

 

With regards to the layering, this is how I taught my best mate to be able to distinguish techno... You can hear, distinctively, the separate instruments used almost on their own and block out the other instruments in the track. Other genres, everything's fused to just the one "layer".

Hmmm... This is the one thing that pisses me off about techno - that argument is used in reverse by a lot of techno purists, "Hard house is for people not intelligent enough to appreciate techno." We don't need to get all "purist" on either side, and we don't need to slag the other side off.

 

There's shitloads of different forms of techno, and those that don't like techno I find *generally* fall into one of two camps:

- They haven't found a form of techno for them yet

- Other people have told them techno's crap, and they haven't really listened to it enough to decide for themselves yet

They are passionate about their music but it does annoy me also when they slate HH but hey it is something that happens alot & we are not quite the same league yet as Hardcore for the slating

 

but without being whats the word?? errm well anyway i can see bow alot of what is ment by techno being more mature, well most genres infact than HH & HC simply IMO it is

 

You can hear it, as I said earlier no doof doof bass lines with techno

Bukey, you've hit the nail on the head mate. Most people that say they dont like techno are just yet to find their style of techno.

I find that techno is kinda primal, the drums and rythmns just "make" u dance as if its built into us.

But I also agree that unfortunately techno is renowned for its "purism" and "snobbery"

I was gonna say... Chart techno? But then again, listen to some purists and there'll tell you all music is techno as all music evolved from techno... Technically, I can see their argument - different instruments layerd together... However, to me techno is more than that...

That all music originated/evolved from techno or the techno sound.

 

Techno is such a huge genre too, lots of different kinds which is why I think so many genres have bred from it if you like, well thats my opinion anyways

Personally I'm not too much of a fan of techno.

 

I'm not one to slate music though, and as a producer I can appreciate the production quality behind it.

 

I've listened to a lot of techno, from the early Smitten releases to the newer stuff by Alex Calver and D.A.V.E. The Drummer...but coming from a trance backround I just always feel that it can be so more if it just had a bit of melody with it as well, or a bassline at least, lol...(yes, I know some techno have basslines)

 

I think the reason why a lot of Hard House enthusiasts don't get techno, is because to them it sound likes Hard House minus the hooks and riffs...as a lot of Hard House base their percussion on techno. And obviously it works the other way around for techno followers, as they think the riffs spoil the groove and momentum of the track.

 

At the end of the day, each to their own...there isn't such a thing as a superior or inferior genre in music no matter how purists go on about their own genre. (And yes, I'm even including pop, R&B etc when I say that)

I love it & I know a fair few HH fans who love it too, but dont find many techno heads who like HH tho

 

IMO anyone who says it is boring needs their ears tested LTM
