really cant see the point in it, its totally misleading, u think theres some peeps online to talk to, intill u check, n they havent actually been browsing the board for 40mins.

 

Dont see why it was changed from 15mins...

Why not have it set at 5 minutes...or turn it off all together seeing as there is an "online indicator" on everyones post tag thing.

Does it really matter!! I think it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out if anyone is on line or not or how active as it clearly tells you

 

However I will pop a thread in crew asking incase James misses this, to ask if he can poss reset the time thingy me bob

OK, the reasons behind this were as follows;

 

Before the 'whos logged in today' mod was put up it was better to see who was 'around' in a 60 minute window than a 15. Before with the 15 minute window I found people would come on, see no one was on, and then leave and not bother posting. When it was changed to 60 people felt inclined to post more and as people (like me) often log in and then go and do something else at work (like a 20 minute meeting) and then keep coming back to their desk people like us were kinda 'online' still as we were half way through the post.

 

The other reason this was set to 60 was because other sites were setting theirs to 60 or even 90 minute and it did seem to fool people into thinking the site was busier and actually as i say encouraged people to post more - and it worked.

 

Now that the who's logged in today mod is up we dont really need it set to 60 although you only have to highlight over someones name to see exactly what time they last actioned something, or highlight over the list of names in the other list to see when they last logged in.

 

The windows are changed depending on how 'busy' the site is - if its dead and there are only 10 people logging in that day it was preferable to see exactly who those ten were, from a stats point of view. If 1000 people logged in each day I guess the 'online' limit would be set to say 5 minutes... and so on...

 

I guess its a bit of a 'cheat' but then as I say all the boards do it and I for one prefer to see who has actually been 'around' recently

Why not get rid of the "who's online" thing and just keep the "Who's been online today" thingy.

 

Should be enough to fool even the stupidest of people...like me.

Lisa, I think what James was getting at was that changing the online status from 60mins to 15mins might not have been a major priority, but it propbably took him all of 10secs to do.

 

Maybe more important stuff needing changed is something James needs to spend more time on, something I know he doesnt have alot of.
