just out of interest minx, as your probably the only other person on here who's actually been on a hunt before, why did you go??? the thrill of the hunt, the enjoyment you get of riding your horse over open country or to kill an animal?

also, to the point that foxes ARENT vermin, they ARE. they kill farmers chickens etc, and while i fully accept all animals have to eat, a fox will go into a chicken shed and kill every single one and then eat perhaps only one or two of them. this also answers why we hunt foxes and not horses!

finally, the ban itself is full of holes. its still legally to go on a hunt, use 2 dogs to flush a fox out then shoot it with a gun before dragging the carcass over the ground allowing the hounds (and people) to chase it. also, if while following a trail laid down (a drag hunt) and they flush a fox they are ok so long as they stop the hunt. so whats to stop them, if they are caught hunting a fox and stop as soon as they see the protesters/police and say they accidently caught the scent of the fox and were just stopping it.

at the end of the day there are currently far cruelier practises on animals in the world. e.g. battery farming. animal protesters would be far better directed campaiging to stop these, were animals spend the whole lives in misery. atleast the foxes have had the opportunity to live a natural life up to the point of the hunt.

At the end of the day who cares, they're vermin that cause problems for farmers and nothing else.

It baffles me as to why such a ludicrous amount of parliamentary time was taken up on this complete non-issue. Does the average Joe Bloggs in the street REALLY care about fox hunting?

No of course he doesn't. Only when actually asked about the issue do the majority of people speak up about it. It is not something that affects their daily lives and something they waste time thinking about. There are far more pressing matters today such as terrorism, health, education I could go on.

Maybe I just a cynic, but did anyone notice how the Fox Hunting Bill was brought to the fore any time the Governement got in any bother. Yet it took them over 7 years in power to enact legislation, it obviously wasn't a very pressing matter for Blair, much like the rest of the country.

It further goes to show that our basic freedoms are being eroded by this interfering, incompetent, pathetic excuse of a Government.

My teenage daughter has been kidnapped, and the people I work with may be involved in both.

I'm Federal Agent Jack Bauer and this is the longest day of my life...

it is cruel and barberic and i disagree with any animal being harmed

there is laws by the rspca that u can be arrested and sent to prison for letting dogs fight illegally such as staffordshire bull terriors and stuff and for any animal to be purposely harmed its just bringing out the murderous instinct in humans and think them dogs could attack an innocent child or one of the guns could shoot a person and it would be classed as an accident

i think the ban should stay and it should be banned alltogether anyone caught doing so should be imprisoned

so well said

all for keeping it

i personally cannot see anything wrong with it at all

at the end of the day it is one animal killing another, it happens all the time in nature

so what if some other animals follow along and watch (ie humans)

and think of the alternatives: would you rather be killed quickly by a bite to the throat, or take several hours dieing when caught in a snare - i know what i'd choose

and snares incidently don't only catch foxes, they catch other animals like rabbits which are not intended to be killed

at the end of the day they are vermin and need to be controlled lest they fuck up the entire ecosystem, so what better way to do it than with a horse ride? if u had to exterminate an animal regularly, after a while i'm sure u'd try to make it as fun as possible rather than a chore

i've never been on a hunt, but i know people who will lose jobs over this if it is properly enforced

the government is meant to be preventing jobless people, not contributing to it

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

to be honest there really isnt. as already mentioned the only real alternative for farmers are snares. and these are a long slow painful death over several hours through bloody loss. also, as already mentioned, these kill other animals as well including badgers, rabbits, hares, deer etc.

and just as a general comment to everyone, how many of the people on here who have said fox hunting is cruel eat meat? do you understand just how cruel a lot of meat production is to the animals. in order to meet are demands for cheaper and cheaper prices the welfare of these animals suffers unbelievably. surely this is a far worse fate than a fox who has had the opportunity to live its life in a natural state?

shooting, fast acting poison maybe, but being chased, scared half to death & then torn apart by dogs etc & hunters is not kind in the slightest!!

RAVER I WENT BECAUSE I WAS ASKED TO GO I USED TO DO A LOT OF CROSS COUNTRY EVENTS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER BUT IT WAS SO DIFF TO RIDING A COURSE THE WHOLE BUZZ OF NOT KNOWING WHERE UR HEADING AND DOING UNPLANNED JUMPING HOWEVER I DO THINK IM GLAD I WASNT TO NEAR THE FRONT TO SEE ANY OF THE ACTUAL KILL OR THAT WOULD HAVE PUT ME OFF

I AGREE WITH THE POINT THAT MEAT PRODUCTION IS FAR FAR CRUELER THAN A FOX HUNT HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY SEEN HOW CHICKENS ARE KEPT THAT ARE BEING BRED FOR FOOD ITS DISGUSTING THE HARDLY HAVE ROOM TO MOVE - I CANT SEE HOW PEOPLE CAN FIND CRUELTY TO ONE ANIMAL UPSETTING WHEN THEY WILL EAT MEAT AND NOT THINK ABOUT HOW IT ENDED UP ON THEIR PLATE!

I agree but as a consumer you are given the choice of what type of eggs & chickens you want to buy & eat & it is for food at the end of the day, fox hunting is a barbaric, arcaic, toff sport & it is wrong, well IMO!! tongue.gifbigwink.gif
