RAVER I WENT BECAUSE I WAS ASKED TO GO I USED TO DO A LOT OF CROSS COUNTRY EVENTS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER BUT IT WAS SO DIFF TO RIDING A COURSE THE WHOLE BUZZ OF NOT KNOWING WHERE UR HEADING AND DOING UNPLANNED JUMPING HOWEVER I DO THINK IM GLAD I WASNT TO NEAR THE FRONT TO SEE ANY OF THE ACTUAL KILL OR THAT WOULD HAVE PUT ME OFF

I AGREE WITH THE POINT THAT MEAT PRODUCTION IS FAR FAR CRUELER THAN A FOX HUNT HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY SEEN HOW CHICKENS ARE KEPT THAT ARE BEING BRED FOR FOOD ITS DISGUSTING THE HARDLY HAVE ROOM TO MOVE - I CANT SEE HOW PEOPLE CAN FIND CRUELTY TO ONE ANIMAL UPSETTING WHEN THEY WILL EAT MEAT AND NOT THINK ABOUT HOW IT ENDED UP ON THEIR PLATE!

I agree but as a consumer you are given the choice of what type of eggs & chickens you want to buy & eat & it is for food at the end of the day, fox hunting is a barbaric, arcaic, toff sport & it is wrong, well IMO!! tongue.gifbigwink.gif

160704

also these chickens born and bred in this enviroment appears perfectly normal to them as its the only thing theyve been accustomed to

as for the fox thing i stick by my word

it is fair enough for a farmer to shoot foxes and do whatever when the fox has been found attacking chicken houses and other stock on his farm. it is unfair however to gang up a party of people on horses with blow horns and a hundred or so dogs and hunt the foxes for sport! that is wrong and i disagree with it totally.

SO YOU WOULD ALWAYS BUY FREE RANGE - U NEVER EAT IN RESTAURANTS WHERE YOU DONT KNOW THE ORIGIN OF THE MEAT/EGGS ETC, I CAN GUARANTEE IF YOU'VE EATEN INDIAN/CHINESE TAKEAWAY ULL HAVE EATEN THE CHEAPEST MEAT THEY CAN GET THERE HANDS ON WHICH IS USUALLY THE CRUELEST PRODUCED!

ITS PROB WHY IM SO TORN ON THE ISSUE COS I DO THINK IT IS CRUEL BUT THEN IM NOT IN A POSITION TO JUDGE IT

shooting, fast acting poison maybe, but being chased, scared half to death & then torn apart by dogs etc & hunters is not kind in the slightest!!

160693

but these are not realistic options. the farmers do not have the time to go and sit out and wait for the foxes to shoot them, and not only are fast acting poisons expensive but other "innocent" animals may consume them.

and minx i guess your like me, id be just as happy if not more happy to go on a drag hunt. all the fun without the potentially nasty ending!

and lisa i think you missed the point i was making about meat production. i know we all have the choice and im very careful about the meat etc i eat - but the point i was trying to make was that these people, the "animal rights" protestors should be directing their energies to banning battery farming etc which is far cruelier than fox hunting.

I WOULD SOONER SEE MY MONEY GO TO THE RSPCA THAN TO PAYING THE WAGES OF THE POLITICIANS THAT HAVE BEEN PUTTING THERE ENERGIES INTO THIS BAN FOR THE PAST HOWEVER LONG!

im sorry but please dont talk about things if you dont know the facts.

just because an animal is born into an environment doesnt make it normal for them. animals have natural instincts meaning there are some behaviours they are compelled to do, and these environments prevent them from performing these behaviours. E.g. chickens are compelled to "peck" at things, and in these battery farming environments are unable to perform this natural behaviour and so peck at other things, i.e. themselves and others in the cage causing horrific injuries.

also, is it natural to keep them in a cage that is so small they can hardly move and packed in with about 5 other chickens, often with atleast one of them dead on the floor.

how would you like it if i crammed you into a room with 5 of your mates, making sure atleast one of them is lying dead and decomposing on the floor, that is so small you can hardly move. if id done that to you since birth would it be "ok" because it would be a "normal" environment to you?

yes but i havent grown up from birth in that cage in the dark with 5 others though have i?

i can see your point and i do agree that it is indeed cruel, although if a chicken is born into a cage crammed with 5 other chickens then all its gonna know is what it lives through... it will not experience the trauma of being trapped because it will have never known freedom.

and yeh they probly will peck each other

no they wont PROBABLY they WILL mutilate themselves and each other.

surely the fact that those chickens live through misery and pain ALL their lives makes battery farming cruelier than fox hunting. and your right it wont experiance the trauma of being trapped, it will experiance the trauma of spending its whole life in the dark, crammed into a space with other chickens that is so small it can move. it will experiance the trauma of having stand on other dead and dying chickens because it has nowhere else to go. it will experiance the trauma of being so compelled to perform instictive behaviour that it mutilates itself and those around it, including cannabilism.

compare this to the fox, who lives a wild and natural life which comes to an end in a natural way. there is nothing unnatural about the way a fox is killed in a hunt, its exactly the same way that a fox kills its prey. plus studies have proved that the fox doesnt actually experiance any stress untill the moment just before it is caught. this level of stress is no different to the levels of stress experiaced by any prey species. also, hunts very rarely catch a mature healthy fox, its normally the young or the old or the ill which have more chance of being picked off by another predator anyway. atleast in a hunt the foxes have the chance of getting away, theres not much getting away from a gun or poison or a snare theyre caught in. actually no sorry im wrong about that, some animals become so stressed in snares that they actually bite their own legs off and crawl off into nearby bushes to die.

so is fox hunting still cruelier than battery farming and other methods of killing foxes? or are you just talking about something you know nothing about?

yes but if you HAD grown up from birth in the cage would it make it ok??? because that would be the only environment you would have ever known and so it would supposidly be normal to you.

THE MAIN FACT IS IT IS NATURE FOR ONE ANIMAL TO KILL ANOTHER ITS THE FOOD CHAIN AND IT WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN - THERE ARE OTHER ANIMALS IN THE WILD THAT WILL KILL AND EAT FOXES JUST AAS FOXES WILL KILL AND EAT SMALLER ANIMALS - ITS SURVIVAL! GRANTED THE HUNT IS A BIT DIFF AS PPL ARE SPECTATING BUT IT IS NO CRUELER THAN WHAT HAPPENS DAY IN DAY OUT IN THE WILD.

well it probably would be.

it would have been normal to me... i would have probably been miserable from birth til death... never learned language maybe... never walked...

the only people who woulda felt sorry for me or whatever would be the people outside looking in thinking isnt that a shame, whereas i would have been like its all the same to me i think

NOT ME!

IVE ALWAYS SAID ON THE MEAT FRONT IF I THOUGHT ME ALONE STOPPING EATING MEAT WOULD STOP THE CRUELTY THEN I WOULD STOP BUT THE FACT OF THE AMOUNT OF STUBBORN PPL IN THE COUNTRY WHO WLDNT ITS NOT GONNA MAKE A DIFF SO ILL CARRY ON!

To quote an old cd  -    Meat is murder

So who is a veggie ?

160766

im not because eating meat itself is not cruel. its the farming methods, and sometimes the way they are killed as well that is cruel.

all our meat comes from a farm shop were we actually know the farmer and he doesnt mind you having a look at his animals and the way they are kept.
