Fox hunting ban - what are your views?

ive just read all the replies and cant be arsed going and replying to each individual one.

 

all the people on here who have suggested more humane ways of curbing the fox population, yes you are right, some of them probably would be more humane. but they arent practical, they cost too much money and take up too much time. its all very well arguing away about there impact on animal welfare but at the end of the day in reality its never going to happen. considering that the realistic options open to farmers are

 

1. fox hunting

 

2. snares

 

3. poison

 

options two and three cause a long painful death and do not necessarily target foxes. any method that does not require human participation can catch any wild (or domestic) animal that wanders into its path. given the realistic options i believe fox hunting is the most humane.

 

secondly, whoever said fox hunting isnt as cruel as battery farming, how do you justify that a lifetime of pain and misery is worse than a few minutes of it???

 

and someone compared a zoo to a battery farm??? yes the animals in a zoo are caged but atleast they have the room to move about. yes i know few have similar sized enclosures to their natural range but the conditions in a zoo are a world apart from that of a battery farm.

 

also, the whole nonsense about the animals being ripped apart by a pack of hounds has obviously never been on a hunt before. do any of you understand what a whipper in does? or the master of the hunt? the whole point of these people is to control the hounds, and as soon as the fox is caught the hounds are called off. they are not torn to shreds as some people are led to believe, and the actually time it takes from the animal being caught to it being killed to it actually being dead is no more than 1.5 seconds.

 

at the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinion and its funny that no-one has asked mine. I DO THINK FOX HUNTING IS CRUEL AND BARBARIC, but i can understand why it needs to be done as foxes are pests. all these people on here who think it should be banned, how would you feel if you had a nice pet rabbit/cat/dog and a fox got into you garden and killed it for the sheer hell of it, didnt even bother eating it because it wasnt hungry it just felt like killing. who'd want to kill the fox then?

 

also im biased, sorry to admit it but i care more about the horses and the hounds than i do about the foxes and a complete ban on fox hunting would mean thousands of hounds being put down as well as the horses which would either be put down or sold to unsuitable homes where theyd be mistreated.

 

so yes i do think fox hunting is cruel, but its necessary and there's a lot worse examples of animal cruelty in the world today.

but you are right, raver baby, about how it is neccesary and i agree fully that it should be done to keep numbers down and what-not, but hunting for fun/sport/leisure activities isnt fair on anyone or anything really. thanks

i think actually shooting should be banned too... thing is police cant really do much about it straight away, thats why i also think we need to upgrade our home police force to somewhat like america's.... i think we need police to carry a gun at all times because nobody knows what ppl can get up to nowadays and i dont think many are too bothered by the good ol' truncheon... would be so much easier to get these lunatics to surrender under a threat of gunfire to their arm or leg or somethin...

maybe if it wasn't made into such a how shall I term it *toff, nosed, redtails & whatever sport* then maybe it would not seem as barbaric, but to see these people on horse back all done up to the nines, making a deal & a song & dance & clearly taking pleasure in it doesnt go down too well.

i haven't been out shooting birds but just target practice is gr8 fun. why should people stop shooing birds, they die straight away and is not cruel in any way

 

and like fox hunting, pheasant shooting as well as being eaten is a pest control issue.

 

their numbers have been controlled for years by shooting and hunting so it needs to continue
