We have here some excellent examples of the common ned. They are displaying all of the "gear" expected of them and we also see a truly excellent example of the high cap angle on the hard looking one in the middle. We also see here the obligatory big guy or 'Goon Ned' used to "give doins" and generally intimidate people.

 

 

These may be the same people...I find it hard to tell the difference sometimes. This little squad of neds may look like they are displaying a "hard" pose for the camera but they are not. They stand around like that anyway. There's also a nedette or "senga" tucked into the background there.

 

 

What can I say about this one? It just goes to show folks, stereotypes are true. This ned displays the stereotypical uniform of a ned. In a way it is a blessing that they dress this way because it provides the good honest citizens of Glasgow with a "cross the road" alert. Do you see anyone ahead of him? Exactly. Part of me wishes he was going to a fancy dress party or something but I really don't think he is.

These guys are not really what you would call a pure common ned. They show indications of developing into the dressed ned category and perhaps in a year or two they will achieve this. Its likely that they are now getting slightly old for the "young team" market and wish to progress to bottling people in The Moon or Archaos nightclubs.

 

 

Here we have the Number 1 Krew...apparently. The neds here are generic common neds. An interesting thing to note is that one of them has his fingers stuck up to the camera. This is a common trait amongst neds with a camera in front of them. Either they think it makes them look hard or cool, or they have a strange spasmic reaction in their fingers every time a camera is present.

 

 

MD 20/20! This is common neddish underage friday night juice. This drink comes right up there with buckfast in the ned stakes. It's likely that this young ned was "pure buckled" and trying to "fire in" to the three nedettes behind him. Did he get lucky? E-mail me, young ned, and I will let people know. This is a good example of what a "wee cheeky ned" should look like.

Aww the troops! Anyone know which team this is? E-mail me if you do (Update: It's the "notorious" Borheed Young Numpties) . This large group of neds would simply hang about on a street corner. This happens in every part of Glasgow. If you approach them you may hear such phrases as "whit you dayin ya mad rocket?", "we'll do you ya dafty" or "look it the state ay you ya bullet". The one in the middle looks like he wants to be called Mad Dog or something. He has serious potential to be a "mad ned".

 

 

Although this picture is of poor quality, it needed to be displayed as an example of the archetypal squad of neds. Here we can see a few common neds, a Goon Ned wearing the green t-shirt, a potential mad ned in the front centre and two potential wee cheeky neds. I'm inclined to say that the wee cheeky ned of this squad is the one at the bottom left of the photo. Just look at him.

 

 

What's that you say, common neds? "You're gettin it"? That's nice. These neds are attempting to display a rather hard persona for the camera. Sticking up your middle finger on each hand is well hard and other neds who see this photo will be shaking in their boots. These could be thought of as the kind of tough guy ned who lose their toughness as soon as they are on their own.

These people are good examples of the "Dressed Ned". They've been kitted out in all the most expensive gear (and rather fashionable you have to admit...okay, maybe not) and went out for a night on the town. It's almost a certainty that soon after this photo was taken, Rab, on the left, glassed an innocent by-stander outside the club, Shug, in the center, was arrested and spent a night in the cells and Jobby on the right got so leathered that he spent the night in an alleyway and later pissed himself.

 

 

Well, what can I say. Every ned needs to have his first trip to the off-license and we are all lucky to experience this young ned's first trip. Although he does look slightly overwhelmed by the whole experience it would have been a matter of seconds before he plucked up the courage to ask for his first bottle of pulse.

This opportunist photograph captures a ned 'tankin' it away on a child's bicycle. What has he just done? Did he steal the bike? It looks like we'll never know. He also has the obligatory plastic bag with mystery items inside which you will usually see attached to most beggar neds arms as they travel from post to post on a good days work.

This picture is quite unique. Neds don't normally stick their finger up at the camera in solo photos, preferring to reserve their obscene gestures for group shots.

 

Hmmm. What I said above still stands. That the above nedette is too sticking her finger up at the camera is just a coincidence...

 

Right. This isn't looking good. The photo has been taken at a rap angle so the chances are there's a posse behind him, and that would explain his finger...

 

Where are all these finger pose photos coming from anyway? My anthropological observations were wrong. Neds simply love to stick their finger up to the camera in solo shots, as there's definitely no posse behind this human hedgehog, just the odd pink bottle of perfume and various other feminine toiletries by the look of things.

 

Just rub it in a little, why don't you. Now where did I put my finger snapping device?
