most places like comet etc all do HP now and so do all catalogues. cant say about other catalogues, but the ones i work for (great universal, great universal essentials, kays, kays lifestyle, choice, choice for you, abound and marshall ward) will all do 40wks interest free payments on more expensive items over £69.99 and on the really big items like freezers they do 100wks and 150wks but you have to pay 19.9% apr.

 

personally id never rent because as minx said its money dont the drain. atleast with HP you can pay a bit at a time and they'll be yours eventually even if its in a couple of years time.

 

have a look at great universal. id offer to get you one with my staff sales but i cant have credit, ive gotta pay it all in one go.

 

if not a catalogue im sure you could get something at comet, currys etc.

 

word of warning though, i work on new customer services, and to get a credit account with a catalogue you really need to be on the electoral role and have a decent credit history (no late payments for things etc).

Renting does have its benefits in that anything goes wrong with the appliance that they are under a duty to repair it thus u don't have ot worry about extended warranties etc.

 

I my opinion renting is probably as sensible way to go as it's not as if white goods have any sort of resale value and cannot exactly be seen as an investment, in say the way that property is.

raverbaby i cant get catalogue cos im unemployed and livin in a rented flat with no spouse who is working.

i cant rent cos im single mum, in rented flat and not working ive been on fone all morning and im fed up of not bein allowed to have these sort of things

ud think its ppl like me who need the chance, if i had bought my flat id be able to buy flaming furniture and entertainment things

you can chick! i work in the new customer services department for one of the major catalogue companies. the only real requirement for a catalogue is a decent credit history and being on the electoral role.

 

they dont even ask if your working, or how much your income is. it all goes on credit history. dont want to pry by asking if you've ever been late with payments, but if you havent theres no reason why you cant have a catalogue!

shame. but even never having a credit card wouldnt go against you. i mean the worst thing is bad credit, because if you've had late payments in the past companies think you wont pay them.

 

catalogues arent as strict as a lot of other things that you need credit for. but you do need to be on the electoral role. i mean if i can get them, and im only 19 and still living at home and a student that proves it really!

 

its so shit, everything goes against those who really need stuff. and those who dont need it can get it all easily!
