bukey reason why it isnt ilegal is cos some ppl cant be on electoral role or vote as ur where abouts can be found u need to think about that and also if it was made ilegal then anyone over an age would have to but what about handicaped and disabled and even elderly ppl that cant. not quite fair realy is it.

i cant for a reason i cant be on electoral role

I don't think the Electoral Roll should be made public. I think a registered Citizen Roll should be made public, but not the Electoral Roll. I think, however, it should be an offence not to vote.

Voting is compulsory in Australia

Just because it is made compulsory doesn't mean you have to vote for a party, simply go along to the polling station and spoil ur ballot paper. By makin voting mandatory you would then be able to track the apathy amongst the electorate, which would quite possibly cause a shift in the way parties campaign and the issues they stand for.

My teenage daughter has been kidnapped, and the people I work with may be involved in both.

It's called postal voting. It's available now.

There is no excuse for not making voting mandatory.

got to agree on this, voting should be mandatory, but for the sake of people in situations like dani's they shouldn't make it public. theres no need for it to be available to the general public.

they should have a public register list where ppl in situations like danis are left out and then a voting list that is private.

what are your thoughts on lowering the voting age also ??????????

I think the legal age of voting should be lowered. If people understand that it's not only their right to vote, but also their duty and a requirement, and they understand that they must do this from the age of 16 (eg, before apathy has a chance to set in), then it would help.

If people are deemed to no longer be minors at 16, to be able to go out and earn money and pay taxes, to be able to leave home and set up by themselves... Then they are old enough to vote. I'm undecided on the best way to do it though. My two preferred methods are:

1. Lower the legal age of voting to 16, full stop.

or

2. Lower the age age of voting to 16 - but only once people have left school and started to make contributions to the running of the country through tax (eg, have a job).
