Yeah i know what you mean, it's always good to know about everything so if you do get bored of something, you have the skills to take something else up without having to delay because of even more training!!

I also signed up for the second level pc one haha, gonna keep doing the free ones too just as a change from a big course that i'll end up doing as it will be nice to be able to have a break from one and go to the other if i get bogged down with something.

I'm off to see a learn direct advisor this afternoon to see what courses i can do with them in my area so hopefully something will come out of that!! grin.gif Have you looked into learn direct? xx

my brother has just finished a masters in network computing and he's currently a network engineer soon to become a network manager.

i think for the support side and fixing stuff theres less available online, you know the self taught stuff, but theres loads out there.

get yourself down to your local uni/college and see what they have on offer.

oh yeah, and i think most computer related jobs pay a decent amount of money! smile.gif  w00t.gif

I've been on their websites and looked at the courses, they seem a bit general but i'm still considering them but am looking at others also as i want to know my full options before making a decision as i want to make sure i'm on the right course for what i want to do.

And yeah i think most IT jobs are well paid.. it's part of the reason i wanted to do it. lol.gifwink.gif xx

They have courses that you can sign up for online and receive a government grant towards the cost if you're british etc which you are so would be ok for you.

Or there are courses that you can find to do at a local learn direct centre near you that you can also get help with funding for but you need to go into the centre more to do them and to sign up. There's loads of information and courses on there though and it's even just interesting to see what kinds of courses there are.. i felt like a kid in a sweetshop as there were loads of courses that looked really good.

I didn't realise you got an NVQ at the end of the vision to learn ones, that's wicked.. can't wait to start it.. if only they'd bloody send me what i needed grr lol!!

I want to learn loads and have loads of options open to me for it.. and they do say that knowledge is power bigwink.giflol.gif xx

You're more than welcome (info) if i find anything else i'll post that up too!! yes.gifflowers.gif

Welcome darlin, yeah i mean i'm searching even now for online/free courses and although a lot of them don't seem as good as others in that they're not an actual certified course, they can still be quite helpful. Like some of the ones on cnet (will post link up in a second for you) they're handy to learn but you don't get a qualification at the end of it. But i enjoyed doing them anyway!!

cnet - http://courses.help.com/index.jsp - they have different courses starting all the time so is good to keep an eye on what's on each week and see if there's anything you fancy doing!!

Yep definitely, it will all help and at least if you know the basics of something, they're gonna find it easier and better to train you up in the other stuff as opposed to starting from scratch with someone who doesn't know a thing.

I've been well excited the last couple of weeks or so as i know i'm finally gonna get on a path to somewhere instead of just plodding along. grin.gifhappydance.gif

Yeah Claire as Lisa says, do the courses on Vision to Learn first, as that helps you with basics, also look into doing the ECDL course for Windows Applications .. I'm liek you - I self taught myself which is why I'm where I am today ! I don't know about courses though for fault finding etc. as I've not really heard any course of that kind of stuff, but I started out on a help desk and that's where my knowledge expanded a great deal and my Interests have furthered around the Industry .. there is sooooo much to choose from as the Industry is HUGE !

Get yourself some basic Computer qualifications (I would deffo recommend the ECDL) and stick it on your CV as Employers are impressed with this qualification as it's deffinatly a starter in this type of Indutry, and most ask before hand about that particular course. thumbs.gif

Maria - ta babe, yeah there's loads of jobs to do in IT which is why i had problems trying to find out what was what lol. I've seen a few part time short courses near me that include the ECDL so could be worth doing that on top of all the fault finding stuff!?!

Who did you do your training with? Was it a local placement/college or an online one?

I started at the college douin this ECDL course - ity's bassicaly how to use Microsoft Office, e:mail, and other applications (I can't remember - I'll have a look when I get home as I'm in work at the mo). ECDL = European Computer Driving Liscence. You get a Certificate at the end and like a Passport docket as well .. if you know how to use Microsoft Office etc, still DO this course ... it's a great qualification to have on your CV, as you know most employers like to have their employees to have experience in whatever and have something to show for it (especially when you go for interviews in any I.T role, they compose tests for you !). After the ECDL I went on to do a Customer Service Course and got a Qualification in that .. Customer Service falls into most I.T Catagories, so again, that a good / beneficial qualification for you to go for as well. But the fault finding course, I really don't think there is a fault finding course, because just liek you, fault finding is exactly what I wanted to start out in (on a course), but I was told there is no such course for fault findings, because there are so many faults that you could come across say on a Help Desk, it's like Technology - new Technology is discovered every day .. it's like faults on Computers .. New faults are discovered every day, so there wouldn't actually be a course for this type of thing .. if you catch me ?

Try this .. it might be a bit advanced for a beginner wanting to get into this kind of stuff in IT, but I picked up quick, and you may also as well Advanced Courses ... Free Learning..

There are quite a few on there .. let me know what you think of it. thumbs.gif

Maria.
