Wow that's wicked, thanks for the link.. i have saved it into favourites now so i'll definitely look into doing some off it.

I have just come back from signing up on a learn direct course, and also have some other courses as a possibility going to a proper college but on a business and technology section of it. I can do as many learn direct courses as i like for free too as i get funding for course costs too so can do shorter courses aswell as a bigger course too.

I can't wait now. grin.gif

I'm starting a course on Saturday at a college fairly near me, it's free and apparantly would usually cost a few grand to get if training elsewhere!!

Can't wait, getting my fella to do it with me too as it's free for him too even though he's in full time work. grin.gif

Lisa - enquire at learn direct about people they can put you in touch with for courses they may not offer. Mine's with business venture at eccles college - so maybe they may have something similar or with the same company down there?! xx

I have a route that i am taking now with the college, i'm starting with the CompTIA A+ certification, then will take CISCO CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) networking qualification and then that will allow me to do the CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) award. I'll probably also do their Microsoft IT course too as they said it's easy enough to do all courses with them so might aswell keep with them for the most of my training.

I'll probably also do the MSCE and MCDST at some point too as have wanted to do them for a while but wanted to get some experience and qualifications under my belt first.

I'm also doing learn direct courses in MS Windows 2000 Admin and ECDL too in my spare time.. if i ever have any haha.

All this should mean that i'm an all singing, all dancing IT monkey when i've completed them. lol.gif

That's ace ! And networking is deffinatly the next level up after the A+ course. Either that or the MCSE. The MCDST is a pretty newish course too I think, it's not official with our company just yet, but it's a fecking wicked course as it entails everything you need to know and learn when orking in a Desktop Environment. It's proper shwiiing and I'm excited about it already blushing.gif . Cisco is also a good one to have too, quite popular as well. I have about 50 free courses given by my company (yay) and I'm currently undergoing the Windows Server 2003 Course, then I'm going to move on to Microsoft .NET then will see after that. What's the situation with them paying for the courses for you ? If you need help at hand with the A+, giza shout ! And if you figure out how to work out BINARY then PLEASE let me know ! I'm taking both exams for the A+ in the next few months, and would like to walk in being an expert on Binary ! thumbsup.gif

Thats good that you have 50 courses you can do with your company, who do you work for? Would be good to get a job with a company that will give you free training with them as you get the experience aswell as the qualifications!!

The courses at the college and with learn direct are free because i live in the Salford area which is where has gotten government training grants so i'm entitled to that just by living here.

Any other course i may do (probably with a different college that has joined up with sitec training enterprises as they seem to have some good courses to do) i think they cost £10 registration fee for each one and that's it so it's not too bad at all. grin.gif

I'm sure i'll be asking advice on allsorts with this course as it's always good to have someone who knows what they're doing on hand for if you get stuck, and as for binary, i shall definitely let you know if i get it sussed myself haha.

I think you're like me about getting IT qualifications aren't you, i'm well excited and feel great about it as i'm finally going somewhere with a purpose. x grin.gifexcited.gif

Oh and the ECDL is a piece of piss.  You will fly through it - it's one of the most easiest, quickest, basic courses there is.

That's what i like to hear.. quick qualifications haha. grin.gif

I work for This Company. It's basically a bussiness driven company that provide IT assistance worldwide and in the UK. We handle Businesses all over the world and mange their corperate / home networks and give out provelages and rights as to what they can use on their office network, such as mailboxes, mailbox rights, setting up roaming profiles on Laptops and Computers, installing software, adding / removing users to Domains / Networks using Active Directory, dial in to teminal servers in London, Manchester, Ireland, China, Asia, India, Australia .. (yes I'm fully having a blag here because the company I work for really is the dogs danglies and I can see myself going places with this company because I'm dead stuck into my career now and I'm going in for the kill grin.gif), you name it, we do it and in that area of the globe ! The best thing is, after 12 months, if there is a job going, in say Canada, Australia (one of the lads is going to work for one of our offices in Oz as he wants to see Oz for 2 years, and he still has the same job out there !), America, or where-ever (!), I can apply for it internally and, well, you know how it goes grin.gif

It's such a great position because every day is a new day and you get to learn about loads of things and use different software and at the moment my favourotes are Active Directory, Citrix and Terminal Server ! user posted image

But don't go into A+ thinking the A+ is an easy course, believe me hon, it aint, and very few pass this course and it's being considered that the Modules studies are possibly getting a re-look ! I've not met one person that thinks it's a piss easy course. Even my boss, who knows a BUCKET LOAD of IT / IT Jargon said it's not easy. Too indepth and very intense and it snatches away 90% of your time as you have to be on the ball. Good luck with it though, and gime a shout if you need anything ! huggles.gif

That does sound like a good job and looks like a pretty decent company to work for, i had a look at the benefits etc for working for them on the site. It's also good that you could transfer abroad if you wanted to, get to see a bit more of the world without having to quit your job. I can see why you'd be really stuck into your career now though, i reckon i will be the same once i get going with it as i wana get a really good career under my belt now and concentrate on getting as far as possible with it.. and with the best wage i can too haha. yes.gif

Yeah i'm expecting that i'll have my difficulties with it but i'm pretty determined that i will gain qualifications that i need/want so will do everything i possibly can to make sure i do get it.

I just can't wait til i'm really stuck into it all and getting somewhere with it. I think it's really good though that you're enjoying it all as it's always good to be enjoying what you're doing, makes it 100% easier to stick to it doesn't it. huggles.gif

Ha ha, well, to be honest, I've never been into the money side of it when it comes to money, even though the money is good in I.T. I've got a good paid job and I get a review every 6 months, but I'm in it because it's a hobby 'offline' as well for me. Everything about I.T and my job is the fact every single day that goes by it's a different and unique day and every day you get the chance to spot your strengths and weaknesses in different areas. Like on Friday, I learned something I was stuck on for MONTHS on a hardware related area ! Technnology is forver changing, and THAT's why Information Technology is such a unique and exciting industry to be in. happydance.gif
