Might be a bit of a hassle in some ways but the pay is great ! Got a lovely pay packet this month which means going on holiday in July with NO worries about how much to spend makes it that much more enjoyable excited.gif

i love being self employed, OK the accounts & stuff can be real shitter if your not in the right mind to do it (especially come april 1st lol.gif ) but not having to answer to anyone or work around peoples holidays/time off is great.

unfortunately this year i dont get what i count as a real holiday (somewhere hot & lazy) but have had a fair few weekends away this year which is more than i ever had while working for an employer yes.gif

Woohoo you jammy sod!

I miss having proper commision targets i get bonuses now but can specifically focus on them, its so much better when your work load determines what you earn as i hate this place a few of us do twice as much as certain others but they still get bonuses based on what we have worked our arses off for

I think I might go for contracting work on a more perminent basis when I'm a bit more qualified in what I'm doing, later on in the future. I'll be earning a packet and going on nice hollidays a few times a year - LOVELY grin.gif

but not when you have to work every hour god sends because you've got that much work on, so you have to question even having sunday off let alone saturday, and then evenings are taken up doing paper work.

plus nearly all the profits from the business have to be reinvested into gettting all the tools and machines and a workshop. sad.gif

no doubt ill reep the benifits from the other half being self employed (well he's Ltd now but same thing) in a couple of years time but right now it all seems like a load of hassle.

but the main thing is he's happy being his own boss and he absoloutly hated being employed. smile.gif

I have my own accountant doing the paper work for a tiny fee. I don't think I would ever be able to do the paper work myself, I don't have the brains blushing.gif

Although I love my job and the area I work i so it will never feel like a chore no matter how many hours I work. I'm out of my house 12 hours a day 5 days a week and I love it. A feel of independence is great. thumbsup.gif

But being your own boss is great. But it doesn't work like that for me, to which I'm glad, as I know I'd take my roll for granted and I would rather be ont he go all the time by completing work for other clients / contracts w00t.gifexcited.gif

unfortunately though he's a joiner, so he has to enter up all the materials from each job that he's used, and he has to work out quotes for all the jobs he does as well so theres quite a lot of paper work he has to do.

he's got an accountant for the complicated stuff but at this moment in time theres a lot he has to do himself. im sure later on ill be doing all the entering up, or he'll employ someone to do it for him but he always have to do the quotes himself.

its mainly the quotes that are the killers as for a big job they can take hours and hours. but he's happy and doing really well for himself so i shouldnt complain. smile.gif

Being self employed is great... Mistake I used to make though was that I never took enough holidays... Holiday = no pay... You get used to contractors rates, and so if you're like me you end up spending and not saving, which means that you lose twice over on holidays - you're still spending and you're not earning so the month is negative on the old cashflow...

Going to open a Savings Account before I go on holiday then every month I will be adding to it for many, many things !

It's a sucker not being paid for holidays though.

just a word of warning about the dominican republic...

ive not been personally but know a couple who have and they stopped in a 5 star hotel but the food was shite. as your not really allowed out of the hotel complex as its not safe they had no choice but to eat the hotel food and the kylie the girl lost sooo much weight as she basically didnt eat for a month.

anyway, i cant talk from personal experiance but they said they'd never go again.
