OK...MOST emeralds are green...MOST sapphires are blue...MOST diamonds are white.

 

Its not the colour that makes them what they are, its the combinations of minerals that are in them.

 

Diamonds and 100% carbon, sapphires and emeralds have a slight mix of other minerals in them and occasionally they come out different colours.

And now a black diamond...usually more expensive than the normal

Just found a website about emeralds and I hate to admit it but I was wrong. All emeralds are green, varying from a very yellowy-green to a dark grass green.

 

I do know that not all green gem stones are emeralds though....and you dont get red sapphires.
