It's not the same by any stretch of the imagination. Windows XP is very different to Windows 2000, although they share a common codebase. The XP/2000 codebase is completely different to that of NT4, and so on.... NT and 9x were completely different platforms, even though they looked similar...

obviously a whole lot of programming is changed and edited and completely re-written in order to make it a more stable and robust program.

 

in the end. it looks the same, does the same stuff, has pretty much the same operations. but its a new program and a new interface

 

thats what it appears to me, but obviously people like yourself would know a whole lot more about that

Yup, and its when you add a server backend infrastructure that systems really come into their own... But I won't go of on one and bore you...
