CTW Members fifedjdomo Posted September 16, 2005 CTW Members Share Posted September 16, 2005 in this weeks (months?) edition of DJmag is a free mix CD of Meat Katie and James Zabiela DJ Face Off exclusive 1 hour mix featuring tracks by the likes of Elite Force, Koma & Bones, Atomic Hooligan, Coburn & Dumb Blonde, D.Ramirez Metric and more. in my own personal opinion its a really good overall mix. some of the tracks arent to my liking with some nippy sounds looped over and over unneccesarily imo. but like i said its a good overall mix and definitely worth listening to if ur preparing to go out somewhere funky on a friday night (or even a saturday lol) generally its a dirty underground house mix with some hints of the recent trend of funky house through it. also some hints of acid and electro. like i said before, good mix, worth havin a listen to if you're into house. CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted September 19, 2005 CTW DJs Share Posted September 19, 2005 The man rocks, technically better than any DJ on the club circuit at the mo (or for some time for that matter) Check out his tutorials on the renaissance site. CTW Members fifedjdomo Posted September 20, 2005 Author CTW Members Share Posted September 20, 2005 honestly i think he wouldnt do it as much durin a set. i'll have to listen over that mix cd again see if he did them tricks durin it. im not sure he did. i guess showing off is a slight distraction when ur proper DJing in a set in a club. sure the crowd is wantin a performance but i reckon he wouldnt do it a whole lot because he has to think about the whole mix. they are some cool tricks though im well impressed (no vinyl though, what is that, is he too up to date? lol)
CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted September 20, 2005 CTW DJs Share Posted September 20, 2005 Well I hardly meant he would do it all through his set. Ive seen him live a few times and hes blown me away everytime. he using these tricks etc to build certain parts of his set. He plays mostly off cds now, a few vinyls but Id say 90% was cd. Theres loads of djs like that now. I saw Erick Morillo a while back and he didnt play one single record. CTW Members fifedjdomo Posted September 21, 2005 Author CTW Members Share Posted September 21, 2005 thats a real shame to be honest. i still think there will be market for vinyl for a long time yet, its just a shame that these top dj's dont keep going with the vinyl. i noticed the tiesto in concert dvd he played both vinyl and cd. thats the way its meant to be i think, a good blend of both. james zabiela, one top guy, i aint seen a dj do that before. i bet his sets were top when you saw it i have no doubt. CTW DJs LiamStyles Posted September 21, 2005 CTW DJs Share Posted September 21, 2005 Why is it a shame that DJs are switching to cds? Whats the difference? They are still playin the same music. I can never understand when people slag off DJs for switching to vinyl. The way I look at it (I play loads of stuff off cdr these days) with cds there are alot of new technologies and features that enable djs to broaden what they can do with tracks etc. Therefore maiking it more interesting to see / hear. How is that a bad thing? I will never stop buying vinyl (unless they stop pressing it) as I have a vinyl / collecting addiction, but I have however imbraced new technology. Which, in my opinion, is vital if you want to stay ahead of the game Quote LiamStyles Bet you look good on the dancefloor *LiamStyles - mixes on rotation* Current mix "No Concept Of Time" CLICK HERE
