1st October 2005 : Retro - A Celebration of House Music

Retro once again returns to the Midlands for another onslaught of House Classics! Tonight we see a true favorite of The Emporium days of old in the form of Jon Pleased Wimmin! Jon started his DJing career in 1989 when he became great friends with Danny Rampling and was asked by Danny to stand in one time in his absence. Jon never looked back and took to DJing like a duck to water, gigs started coming in and he became a resident at the monthly Puschca parties. Through the course of the nineties, Jon traveled the whole world playing to enthusiastic crowds from Buenos Aires to Tokyo and beyond. If he had to pick a favourite gig so far from his DJing career, it would have to be playing for Cream in Punta Del Este in Uruguay, a stunning location with a feverish crowd and very stylish to boot. Jon's first release was a cover of the Bobby O production, the classic 'Passion' by The Flirts (later sampled by Felix da Housecatt on "Silver screen, shower scene"). It was produced with Norman Cook under his Pizzaman guise, and led to a deal at East West/Warner Bros records where 'Passion' was re-released and climbed to No. 26 in the UK charts. The follow up was called 'Give Me Strength' and was co-written and produced with Jon's friend Sister Bliss (from Faithless ), this also became a top 30 hit in the UK. In 1998 Jon ditched the drag and took a bit of a back seat , preferring to play at smaller, more intimate venues with a slightly more eclectic music policy. He also bought a home studio and started to learn programming and production skills, this has gone from strength to strength and has led to his current deal with Wall Of Sound records under the moniker "The Visitor". So far there has been one AA side 12" on Wall of Sound offshoot label "Love and Good times" (named after a Visitor track). With another due out on 12 September. Into more recent times and Jon has spent the last 2 years writing and producing the bulk of what will be the debut LP from "Roxanne Wilde" (Kim’s younger sister). Tonight we see him back behind the decks @ The Emporium taking clubbers on a musical journey of years gone by! Retro Resident Jay Lee Lloyd and Shane Hopkinz are on hand to assist!
