hes near enough admitted that he will abuse children for the rest of his life and he still gets released after 4 years to do it again. thankfully hes back inside again, but how long for this time

 

i take it he has more of a right to roam the streets freely than an innocent child does??

hun but also take into account the guy has realised he's got a problem. Now that alone is will power. Credit to him for realising it. But the system has to be looked over, but there are so many if's and whats about sentencing.

Nobody chooses to be a paedophile, just like nobody chooses to be schizophrenic. What he did was wrong but he's done the right thing in being asked to be sentenced for as long as possible. The system has failed him here and those children and not because he wasn't castrated the first time he did it but because he clearly still presented a risk and nothing was done about it. Surely better monitoring, councelling, drugs etc could have helped him deal with his illness rather than letting it get to the point where he comitted crimes again?

Agreed, but then it wasnt us or the poor innocent kids he attacks, that have failed him, it is the fooked up system, plain & simple!!

Shit people do shit stuff every day. Because paedophillia involves children it's a lot more emotive. That doesn't make capital or vigilante punishment correct and it doesn't help matters when red top newspapers advocate the same to shift a few extra copies.

 

I think it was only this time that he admitted that he would be likely to offend again. The last time he was in jail, the parole board should have been more alert to the risk he posed and tackled the problem head on.

 

At the end of the day, you can't lock everyone up that poses a risk forever but you can take steps to minimise those risks. It's tragic if someone reoffends but you can't lock people up forever just for something they might do in the future.

How can I word this, as you say we have moved on with the times etc, but the system & society is fucked up in my opinion!

 

These people are quite plainly SICK & do need help, if that help means locking them away to save children etc, then so be it, I could easily sit here & agree with you Stu, however as a parent, if ever anything like this was to happen to one of my daughters, I would not only be the first saying, castrate, but I would be there with the bloody sharpest knife around, so, it easy for us to say one thing, but circumstances can ultimately change our opinions!!
