plenty of things which shouldn't be made fun of but do, it's a fact fo life, deal with it.

to be honest, yeah the holocaust was tragedy, but on a personal level it doesn't effect me at all. i wasn't affected by it, none of my family were. it's deplorable but so are many things in life, liek the ethnic cleansing in bosnia, africa, everywhere.

now i'm just generalising here.....not aiming it at ne1 in particular, but it's ok to slag off christianity, but to dis another religion (ie islam, judaism etc) is wrong. rascism works both ways(on paper), but only protects the ethnic communities.

this countries whole identity is being ruined by the political correctness brigade. our sense of humour is slowly being phased out for fear of upsetting other members of the community. ffs enough is enough. mad.gif

2 months ago i found out that my 9 year old daughter had been sexually abused and "technically raped" by a man we thought was a friend of the family.

It has totally destroyed the normalcy i have in my life and it is hard to express in words what this has physically and mentally done to me.

My opinion on this is that paedophilia is a mental illness. If the basic human instict understands the difference between "right and wrong", then how, in anyone's mind could someone do something like this.

I firmly believe that paedophiles are beyond reform. I have had first experience of this and the things i have learned over the last 2 months will never change my opinion.

These people should be locked away from society for good as they will never understand the harm and effects it has on a family...and given the chance, 99% will reoffend in the future (IMO)

Castration or any other punishment is not enough. It displays a quick instant human reaction of human disgust which is deemed to be the "right thing to do". If i was told this man was going to be castrated, would it make me feel any better..no. I just dont want this man ever to be on the streets again and for any other family to go through what i have.

QUOTE (Kether @ Mar 2 2004, 04:19)
Because paedophillia involves children it's a lot more emotive. That doesn't make capital or vigilante punishment correct and it doesn't help matters when red top newspapers advocate the same to shift a few extra copies.

amen to that.

i think there's a tendency to look at issues like this far too emotionally. while emotiona is, of course, a perfectly human reaction, it clouds the objective judgement required to sincerely solve problems like this properly.

shouting "cut their balls off" does little but make the person saying it let off a little steam and, perhaps, feel better.

i've noticed a tendency, particularly in national politics in the US to deal with many issues in two ways: polarise the debate and then introduce children into the discussion to achieve some kind of misplaced moral high ground.

you can see an example of the former in the white house's basic approach to the 'war on terror'. you are either with us or against us. if you attempt to discuss the war in any other terms than those you are branded an enemy of patriotism (prety ironic in most cases).

there's a parallel here i believe. bringing children into the debate is often used as universal white out over sound, logical reasoning. if you attempt to discuss the issue rationally, you are accused to being "against innocent children" from those on the moral high-ground.

from that point, any reasonable discussion is impossible.

i agree that paedophilia is a vile disease which wrecks lives but simple common sense suggest that it's folly make a blanket statement like this and assume that it applies in every single case.

but kethers views always seem to be hatred towards women and gays, and i don't like that. i saw his post that got deleted, coz it upset a friend of mine. if he has such fascist views, then post them on the BNP or NF website, but don't print them here.

and as for hitler having the right views on jewish people by killing them, my nan woz jewish, and i don't take kindly to anti-semetic views in any way shape or form, be it his own views, or that of a crackpot dictator mad.gif

Show me a post on this board where I've shown in any shape or form hatred to women or gays and I'll show you a liar.

My post hasn't been deleted, if it upset your friend then your friend is obviously too thick to get the point I was trying to make... that's another group of people I don't like; thickies. tongue.gif

I've not made fun of the holocaust on this board either Mr M. I'd get your facts straight before you start mouthing off at me because you're just perpetuating the impression I have of you as being an ignorant reacitionary no-mark who finds it incapable of engaging brain before tpying/speaking.

Btw, I don't think I need to go see Anne Frank's house, there's the testimonial of about 6 million others that I can rely on also to make up my mind.

Dave you've really got the wrong end of the stick here mate. Kether was saying what he did, to point out peoples attitudes, funnily enough like yours. The fact you went on in the way you did only just backed up the point he was making.

Get it now? He was saying such things to say how moronic it is of people to create this witch hunt effect. I mean use a little intelligence, lets take a rape case. Now lets say that this person has had a long line of sexual abuse against them. Now they commit such an act, who's more at fault? The person that abused that person or the system for missing it in the first place? By all accounts we should burn this person at the stake with your attitude. If we can only start to understand how and why such acts happen then this would be a lot more effective in the prevention of them happening again!

Before you even remotely think, no i'm not saying what they did is justified, but we should think more carefully before we open our mouths to pass judgement!

I agree Scream, but it doesnt take away the fact that they do it & need punishing!!

castrating is extreme & is alot of peeps reaction on first hearing such acts. As I say, it depends on the persons circumstances, Crime, victim & criminal!! smile.gif

i'm glad you could be arsed to type that - it needed saying.

sarcasm is supposed to be the lowest form of wit, and he still managed to overlook it.
