Proactive
PARTY PROACTIVE AT TURNMILLS SATURDAY 15TH JULY 2006 – 10pm to 6am OH MY GOODNESS – that really is all I can say to describe our launch at Turnmills. The Party Proactive faithful descended on Turnmills from absolutely everywhere with tickets being sold to party animals up and down the country and even abroad with tickets even being bought in Italy and Spain! We quite literally blew the roof off and shook Turnmills to its foundations. I reckon we might just have found the perfect venue for what has to be “THE†most successful and ground breaking event to emerge out of the London club scene in a very very long time! After lots and lots of thinking and hard drinking we think we might just be able to outdo our launch Party with another Party Proactive line-up that breaks the mould and brings together all that is superb about clubbing and dance music! T1 is host to a flaming cocktail of tech funk, techno and hard dance. DJ superstar Dave Angel headlines the bill, alongside hard dance pioneer BK. With Intec wonder kid, Pedro Delgardo, and two very special b2bs, prepare for a musical journey like no other. T2 goes international and from the city of love, Paris, we bring you house and electro legend DJ Paulette. The musically talented Mr Skruff provides impeccable taste, alongside the legendary Party Proactive favourite, Queen Maxine and rising star Alex Parsons. Energy levels are going to MAXIMUM with the sounds of Atomic Hoooooooligan in the Juno Room. With Chew the Fat’s Paul Arnold raising the stakes and our bountiful master SteelO, those twists and breaks are just the beginning of the most filthy of adventures… In the VIP room we bring you Funk Deluxe, the Midlands fastest rising funky house brand. Proactive
INTERVIEW WITH PEDRO DELGARDO PARTY PROACTIVE SAT 15TH JULY @ TURNMILLS Pedro Delgardo is hot property: a producer and DJ who has steadily built his reputation as a creator of quality techno and chugging, energy driven sets. With releases on Intec, ID&T, Omega Audio, Ascend, Patterns, Tremors and Choo Choo Records, among others, his own label, Yin Yang, goes from strength to strength. Signed to various compilations including Trust the DJ, Ministry of Sound, Dance Valley and Slinky, mixed by a diverse a bunch of DJs as you could imagine – Kevin Saunderson, Ferry Corsten and Tall Paul among others - you know this man loves good music. His remix discography speaks for itself - including Fergie and Anne Savage – with his own 818 Electro remixed by Judge Jules. And all this before he’s even stepped into a club. Guest slots on Radio One and playing to 300,000 people at the Mexico Love Parade give an inkling as to where this man is with his DJing. Booked to play at Party Proactive on the 15th July, he lends us his ear, his thoughts and possibly his mind as we step into the world of Pedro Delgardo… Hi there Pedro, thanks for taking the time to talk to Party Proactive today. First off, in the vast sea of techno definitions, how would you describe your sound? Funky driving trippy trancy, electro techno. Its kind of hard to describe You obviously love dance music – you ran the award-winning record shop, Tune Inn before concentrating on your productions and DJing. Did being surrounded by different styles of music help define your sound? Sure did. I love most styles of dance music and constantly listen to many different genres. As well as owning Tune Inn I used to be the main buyer and coolcuts contributor. Yeah it definitely defined my sound. My sound is a cross of mainly techno with a lot of trance, electro and house elements. You’re on a wide selection of compilations and labels. Do you have different markets in mind when producing a tune or do you find the tracks you make are just accessible and so appeal to a wider audience? Actually no. I make the tracks in the style because I love it. Its just my style happens to cross over to all the techno bods as well as the trance. Which can be a big bonus. Your remix of Anne Savage’s “The Do†is to be released only in digital format. Having experience as both a seller of vinyl and a producer wishing to get signed, what is your take on the vinyl vs digital debate? I could talk about this all day . Well my view on this has changed dramatically in the last 12 months. I used to be a Vinyl only freak (naturally owning a record shop) but now I’m more for digital than I am Vinyl. I just think that digital is the future and Vinyl will soon die. I have now stopped Djing with Vinyl (Which I did for 13 years) and have started with CD’s and just recently my laptop and Im loving it. ‘Sweet Nothing’ is listed on a John Peel track listing back in 2004; you’ve also received air play on Fergie’s show with your remix being voted twice as tune of the week. How did it feel to have your tracks blasting the airways?! Its always good to hear. But I don’t listen to the radio very often and never know if they have played anything or not. Tell us about your Radio One gig – that must have been a seminal moment in your DJ career. It was great. I got invited down to London to Radio 1 HQ and had a blast with Fergie. Don’t know about a seminal point in my career though But it was a good laugh. Having DJ’d across the Americas, Europe and parts of Asia, you previously stated your favourite club is RA in Las Vegas. Why was it so good and how do your gigs compare across different continents - do you find your style changing depending on which country you’re playing in? Of Course. If Im playing in a kind of more commercial club I pull my classics out and my big tracks. If I playing in a more underground club I play more underground. All still with the Pedro Delgardo signature though. I do my best to read the crowd and play to them. You seem to have a lot of contact with the scene in Holland with releases on a number of labels and your own label, Yin Yang, based there. What’s the lure of Holland and how does the dance scene compare to the UK’s? Nothing to do with Holland really except my distributor is there (Triple Vision) and Ive been a on a few Dutch Labels such as ID&T. I think its just a coincidence, although I do love it over there, especially the coffee shops. You’ve had some great releases on your label from producers such as DJ Preach, Olivier Giacomotto and Ade Fenton. How do you go about finding tracks – do you choose producers you personally admire? Not really, the producers are sending me the tracks, I don’t generally go looking for tracks (Although I have asked few producers). I do choose remixers I admire though . I try to keep the quality really high on yin yang. You’re known as a techno DJ but your tracks have appeared on techno, trance and house compilations. The techno scene seems pretty cliquey; how does your mix and match style go down with the techno purists? LOL. Yeah some of the REAL purists snub that sometimes. Thing is I love the purist stuff too and sometimes find myself making more purist techno than purritst What’s your view on the mix and match style of Party Proactive? Winner or Sinner?! Winner. Back to how it should be. It got boring clubs playing the same music all night. Cheers Pedro. We’re looking forward to having you down on the 15th July. Booowai! Right back at ya. Im looking forward to coming down and giving an awesome set. See you soon.
