However you define the last year in Leeds, underground, techno, electro, minimal, commercial, it has been a great year for music of all genres, Detroit, Berlin and Ibiza have always had its place on the clubbing map of the world. Leeds has embraced and connected to this, its time to forget genre, category, and its time to enjoy and remember the love of music.

Discotheque’s new night Cement is bought to you buy Stu & Foz from The Dirty Disco and Gatecrasher to provide what’s been missing on some of our dancefloors, forget preconception and bring back the fun of music, the freshness, the entertainment, yet maintaining the coolness and originality. With an army of unpretentious, open minded and non judge-mental music lovers, together we can achieve the roots and foundations of what we love.

 

For our launch party we bring you non other than Basement Jaxx, Following in the footsteps of the Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx (Brixton's disc jockeys Felix Burton and Simon Ratcliffe) play exuberant, catchy, frantic post-techno music with reggae and latin overtones in the underground hits that they released during the 1990s: Unlike most techno musicians, they compose songs, songs that stand on their own. Chances are, if you've been anywhere near a dancefloor in the last few years you've heard and adored Basement Jaxx.

 

Their meteoric debut Remedy was hailed as one of the most important records of the '90s. They have continued to win props from press, fans and club luminaries with tunes like Flylife, Do your thing, Where’s your head at, Jump & Shout, Rendez-vous, Plug it in and Romeo. Named after the underground parties the pair have been throwing in a down-at-heel Irish pub in (where else) Brixton, Disco, ragga, techno, flamenco, garage, breakbeat, funk-garage-Latin-jazz-cosmic calypso... an eternal, supersonic, choppy-seas boat-trip through the greatest dance sounds ever invented, the ultimate Jaxx experience. shouldn’t be missed at Cement’s launch party on Saturday 26th January .
