Making his debut appearance at D.S next friday is Passion resident and promoter as well as hot producer talent Genix...

50ktv8.jpg

Genix is now becoming a established name in the dance market,,,, Producing and DJing from 17 years old he has developed his skills and now rocking huge dancefloors across the globe with his DJ sets...

After many years of producing 2007 saw Genix take a different appraoch to his music. Creating tracks and remixes from different genres of dance music and producing his own sound that reflects himself in the music. This different approach has seen him get snapped up by dutch elite label 'Spinnin Records'. His debut release 'Phused' picked up support from Armin Van Buuren, Eddie Halliwell + Many More and was released on reset records... Genix also has many forthcoming tracks on Reset including 'Piranha' and 'San Rafael' which include remixes from Re-Ward, Adam Sheridan and m.i.k.e.

2007 also saw the release of some big remixes from Genix... he put his own touch on some huge tracks including work for M.I.K.E., Pulser, Markus Schulz - Fly To Colors (Armada - Coldharbour) and Peter Gelderbloms 'Waiting For' (Ministry Of sound/DATA). these tracks picked up support from almost every major DJ and featured at all of the big summer festivals... Other remixes in 2008 are forthcoming including Agnelli & Nelsons 'Just When' Track that received plays on 'A State Of Trance' and BBC Radio 1.

On the DJ front... Genix has been DJing across the UK and internationally for years but 2007 saw him achieve his biggest acolade to date... He was offered the spot to be resident at UK superclub 'Passion'. This has also led to him taking on a promoters role for the famous brand alongside JFK!..

DJ sets in 2008 have already seen Genix play support slots for Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk... and launched his international schedule with a set in russia that is set to be followed by performances in Ibiza, china, Finland, Mexico, Hungary + many more!

In 2005 Genix took on the world!! He achievd a official Guiness World Record for the longest DJ set in history! This mammoth set spammed over 4 days and lasted 84 hours! Raising money for charity along the way!

All round Genix looks set to hit the top and after all the support of his tracks from Judge Jules in 2007 the BBC Radio 1 DJ has also Tipped Genix for the top in 2008!

Digital Society catches up with Lange:

ju8k9f.jpg

Hi mate hope your good?

I’m very well thanks, hope you are too!

You’ve been in the scene a long time now and have produced numerous hits, are there any in particular that really makes you proud?

I am proud of the work on my new album in particular, but to name a few old tracks…I am especially proud of Brainchild ‘Symmetry C’ (lange breakbeat remix), Lost Witness – Happiness Happening, and the success of my remix of DJ Sakin & Friends - Protect your mind (as it was such a huge moment in my early career!)

You have been at the forefront of the EDM scene for the past 10 years or so, how do you think the scene has evolved in that time?

There have been many changes since the late 90s for Dance music and especially Trance music. Trance in particular was at it’s peak in 98/99 and it dominated mainstream radio and the super-clubs that were established in the 90s. Since then it’s been mostly a downward fall for the music industry in general, mainly as a result of illegal downloads and when the trance-boom had died down the major labels focussed their attention on pop music once more. Dance music is still very much alive in the clubs though and if anything, I think the EDM scene has seen a resurgence in recent years. Of course it’s spread globally now too, one positive the scene can take from the internet!

Musically, Trance has evolved a lot in recent years. There’s more and more of us producers absorbing influences from other genres which has resulted (hopefully!) in a more interesting scene.

What were your musical influences when you were growing up?

I have to admit I listened to mostly pop music when growing up. When I got to college most people were into the indie-rock scene; it wasn’t really my thing and I was relieved when the dance scene started to kick off in the late 80s. Early on in my music production I took influence from the Pet Shop Boys, New Order, early electronic music from the likes of Jean Michelle Jarre, and dance music generally as it developed….let’s not forget the KLF too! Awesome stuff.

The electronic music scene tends to dip in popularity now and then, how you keep your sets alive?

The selection of music I play in my sets has opened right up; this is what keeps me entertained. A few years back I played quite a narrow style of trance, but nowadays anything goes, in fact I try to be as varied as possible in any set I play. The increasing number of multi- or cross-genre tracks out there has made more interesting and varied sets possible so I can play more intelligently and surprise the crowd now and then with something they don’t expect.

You’ve been producing for 10 years now, and have only just released your first solo album ‘Better Late Than Never’. Why have you decided to release an album now? (I suppose the clue is in the title… J)

I felt it was the right time to tackle writing an album which I hoped would be both listenable at home and sufficiently club-orientated. I’ve learnt a lot about music in recent years and don’t think I could have written a good enough album a few years ago when I was very heavily focussed on producing club mixes. To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of signing my first record deal with Positiva Records, I decided to add a 2nd disc to the album with a selection of tracks from my back catalogue.

How does the UK scene compare to others?

The UK scene is ‘getting on a bit’ compared to a lot of places such as parts of Asia and Eastern Europe. It’s always interesting to visit newer territories and often the fresher clubbers are more enthusiastic (especially in the Ukraine and Russia for example where they literally go crazy!)…but it’s not always the case…..one of my favourite cities to play is San Francisco where there are also very responsive crowds. Despite this, I’ve always loved playing ‘local’ and the crowds tends to get more hedonistic the further north you go in the UK!

We’re delighted you’re headlining Digital Society, what can our crowd expect to hear from you when you take over the decks?

Expect trance, but not just trance. Electro- & techno-edged, driving house & progressive-trance.. If it makes me want to dance and is produced well, and/or touches me in some way melodically, I will consider playing it.

Outside of work, what do you do with your spare time?

There’s not much ‘spare’ time in this job. Your whole life is wrapped around music!

And finally tell us an interesting fact about your self?

I love minimal, keep it to yourself.
