Since the late 90’s Kosheen have dominated dancefloors and charts worldwide. Their live show continues to attract huge crowds and remains a festival favourite. On 28th July the two founder members of Kosheen, Darren Beale and Markee Morrison show that they continue to push their music forwards, remaining at the cutting edge, with the release of their first single as Kosheen DJs, ‘HotWax’.

Kosheen have an army of fans for their sound, but anyone lucky enough to catch Kosheen DJs playing in a club will testify that they continue to push the boundaries, delivering a sound as up to date as any you will hear on the world’s most forward thinking dancefloors.

‘HotWax’ is a slice of hard edged electro, featuring vocals from Viva City frontman, Ali. Energetic and electronic, the main synth riff drives the track forwards until the vocal takes over. Ali uses his expressive and punk tinged delivery to create a darkly emotive vocal, perfectly suited to the track. The break builds in a swirl of electronic effects before dropping back into the main riff with an impact designed to seriously shake any dancefloor. As you would expect from producers as well versed in making music as Darren Beale and Markee Morrison, the production is flawless and demands to be heard over a big soundsystem.

The Dub Mix produces the same dancefloor energy, but with minimal vocal, while the Kalmes Mix takes things deeper; based around a percussive groove the vocal is chopped in and out while pads are deployed to create a darker, more atmospheric take on the original. Next up the Divert Mix delivers a quality electro-breaks workout. The vocals take on an ethereal quality as they float above a warped bassline and rolling breaks drum loop. This is a package of remixes to reckon with.

‘HotWax’ is a statement of intent from Kosheen DJs; Kosheen may be a name with a celebrated past, but Kosheen DJs is music for the future.
