After a blistering New Year’s Eve spectacular and a spring party with Rolando, Closer returns for two more parties in 2008 to be held at Hidden in London. With four events under its belt, Closer has proved itself to be the techno party London has been crying out for using warehouse spaces and guests like Luke Slater, James Ruskin, Kevin Saunderson, Rolando, Ben Sims, Colin Dale, Mark Williams and Fabrice Lig alongside resident Steve Strawberry and many young London techno DJs coming up from the underground.

Closer is designed to do exactly what it says on the tin. It’s about techno in its purest, rawest sense – unrestricted, unrestrained – delivered by its finest practitioners up close and personal. Techno in its many shapes and guises has become the leading international language of the dancefloor from beach festivals in Brazil to the underground sound of Europe’s coolest clubs. The scene’s leading DJs are in such demand on the global circuit that we barely get to see them here in the UK and that’s usually confined to the bigger clubs and festivals. All well and good, of course, but there’s nothing quite like dancing to techno when the lights are low, the atmosphere is intense and you can see the whites of the DJs’ eyes!

Out of this desire for a different kind of party Closer was born and it has proved a triumph. With just about every man and his dog claiming to play techno these days, the case for Closer has never been stronger and only the world’s very best DJs are invited to play – the true keepers of the techno flame. Quite simply, original techno music.

Saturday, August 16th will see Closer step out of the warehouses and into a dedicated club space as we return to Hidden in Vauxhall, the scene of an earlier party where council refused a license for a warehouse party and a new location had to be found at the last minute. Kevin Saunderson was in the house that night and tore the place apart, so you can expect more of the same with DJ 3000 and James Ruskin at the controls.

The intimate main room at Hidden worked a treat and this time around additional Opus sound will be brought in especially on the night to enhance the experience further. Closer will also be operating continental opening hours starting at midnight and running through till 8am to suit the late night culture that has become such a feature of London’s club scene.

DJ 3000 and James Ruskin will be joined by Chris Finke and Steve Strawberry playing back-to-back while London techno party Hello Techno My Old Friend complete the line-up in the main room. Over in the bar area, meanwhile, there’ll be an alternative soundtrack of house, breaks and electro proved by Amplitude (Little Jo, Forecast & Jones, On A Break and Randy Quan) and HowCleanIsYourHouse (Tom Keys, Dave Doughty, Frenchie and Richard Belsom.)

DJ 3000: Born and raised in the Detroit but of Albanian descent, Franki Juncaj – the man they called DJ 3000 – is one of the most respected figures on the techno scene. He cut his teeth with Underground Resistance before becoming a prolific producer on labels like Motech Records and Submerge Recordings. Now based in The Netherlands, he’ll be making a rare UK appearance at Closer.

James Ruskin: a stalwart of the UK scene and one of techno’s finest ambassadors, James Ruskin has been making music since 1997. As well as releases on his own Blueprint and Coda imprints, he is an integral part of the Tresor organisation, both as a producer and as a DJ. The label will be releasing his fourth artist album, ‘The Dash’, at the end of 2007 and he has already played at the club in Berlin since it reopened. It’s great to have him back as his closing set at Closer NYE was the stuff of legends.

Chris Finke: another respected name from the UK scene, Chris Finke was also involved in the Split parties with Ben Sims and has played all over the world as well as producing for labels like Flux Recordings and Split Music.

Steve Strawberry: coming up from the London underground and the man behind the excellent Tilted Disco, Steve Strawberry is a man you’ll be hearing a lot more of over the coming months with his incendiary turntable skills. He’s also the Closer resident and took Glastonbury by storm with his new project multimedia project, ‘The House’.

There will also be additional visuals on the night while Hidden also includes an excellent sheltered outdoor smoking area. What’s more, limited early bird tickets are available at only £8 + b/f and look out for some exclusive free downloads too.

Closer is the techno party of choice for London’s faithful has been crying out for – unrestricted, unrestrained and like no other. This is your chance to get Closer with DJ 3000 and James Ruskin – accept no substitute, this is for one night only. Next stop, Friday, November 21st when something very special is being planned.
