or are registered (through driving licence/work etc)

Today more than 5,500 people in the UK are waiting for an organ transplant that could save or dramatically improve their life. Most are waiting for a kidney, others for a heart, lung or liver transplant. But less than 3,000 transplants are carried out each year.

Kidneys, heart, liver, lungs, pancreas, small bowel, corneas, heart valves and bone can all be transplanted. Skin can be used to treat patients with severe burns. Techniques are improving all the time and it may soon be practical to transplant other parts of the body.

more info & register to be a donor

Yeah I think I ticked the box when I got my driving license.

Im sure my old dear would allow my organs to be used if I died anyways!

i used to carry a donnor card aorund with me when i was a kid. dont remember seeing the option tho when i filled out my driving licence, but then i only have a provisional so that might be why shrug.gif

not sure i would want to be a donnor ne more tho. the more spiritual i become, the more i worry about what happens on the spiritual side of things when you donate your organs. different topic this i know, but i do firmly believe in a soul and id be worryed of not resting in peace if my body was raped of its organs (even if it was to save anothers life).

o guess its something i have to settle in my mind before i could commit to

mmmm dunno, rolleyes.gif

could be reasons like born with defects, failiar, medical conditions that lead to failier (not drug or alcohol related)

my daughter was only born with 1 kidney (which is full of cysts) so it doesnt have to come down to lifestyle.

im a donor, in fact i wasnt and was against it till my daughter was born and it was thought she'd need dialasys and kidney donation, friction was caused because her dads side of the family are jehovas witnesses they wanted to deprive her of life (which is what could of happened) just because they didnt beleive she should have blood. i went against there wishes, as any sane mother would do huh.gif

that was the first time (and last time blushing.gif ) i used my faith and spoke to the chaplin of the hospital becuase i was classed as evil and grace was classed as unclean & impure, i (like happy) always thought that i would not be complete if my body was incomplete, he basically told me that your body and soul are 2 different machines and the body protects your soul until its time to die, when your buried, the body is closure but your soul will live on........ i will never forget that day, sad i know blushing.gif

i do. the system is a little different in the US - i have a special mark on my driver's licence (which i carry always) which indicates that i am an organ donor.

thats a load of twaddle, the main risk there was is the risk of contracting hepatitis or HIV through dodgy needles, but you would be screened for all that
