the trouble with psy trance compilations

is that not many of them seem to be mixed. i've just been into camden market, found a couple of shops with walls of CD's, and only a couple of them are actually mixed by DJ's, the rest are stand alone tracks. which isn't good

 

the best sounding stuff i've found so far is all live sets downloaded from the net.

 

and so far i only know names of about 4 big name DJ's who play this kinda music

 

and to top it off i had chicken noodles from a stall in camden market, and they were rank ah well

Sorry to sound ignorant, but what the fuck is 'psy-trance'?

 

Is it another genre within i genre?

 

Can you please direct me to some, as i have seen a lot of topics on psy-trance on here, but aint got a clue what it is!

there's various types of it....hard/trippy/mellow/upbeat, etc.... never just "it"

 

i prefer the fast upbeat bangin stuff. just for a change

bushy, from what i could gather from the psy-trancy room @ antiworld, it was kinda like mixing tidy tracks with techno records

 

not sure i liked it, but i dont think the sound system did the music ne justice

psy is NOTHING like tidy - not even combining it with something else.

 

psy is very 'bitty', very melodic, and has very few breaksdowns - has very deep crisp electronic thumping, CONSTANT bass drums

 

also often has a slowly changing cosmic sounding wave in the background going up and down slowly, kinda like a slow flange being applied in the background

like i said tho, bad sound system for it really. too much bass and gain and absolutly no crispness to it at all

 

i do wanna listen to psy-trance to give it a proper go as in theory it sounds like something i would thoroually(sp?) enjoy

funnily enuff the titles on the walls (like the 'rock' sign in HMV telling u what style the music is) and the covers on the CD's said goa and psy in the sme place, yep.

the only thing is, i thought goa trance was ridiculously f-a-s-t...or maybe thats just "goa" - i dunno
