Phil, I know exactly what you mean, as I am feeling like this myself at the moment.

I am seriously thinking about whether I want to carry on with djing, as I am finding myself more and more resentful of certain aspects of the scene.

I have always prided myself on the fact that I have never compromised on my principles in order to get more gigs, but I look around and I see that certain dj's are getting sets because they are arse-licking promotors, or mixing with certain people because it could get them more work.

I find it so superficial, and refuse to do it, and if that means I don't get many gigs, then so be it, because I am not willing to play the game, and deal with the polictics.

Well that's my 2 dollars worth, and hello from the US of A!

Ali, I totally agree with you on the arselicking aspect of things, sure it is good to get to know promoters etc, but I have noticed certain DJ's who are one min all for one promotion, then as soon as get a sniff of a poss gig with another promotion, they are off & notice they start to bad mouth the other promotion etc!!

I have said to Tony, sure get to know all the promoters etc, to try to push for gigs, as thats the main reason you DJ, to play out, but there is only so much of being nice so to speak, if the promoter can not ear he is a good dj & cant book him on that, then stuff them. thumbsup.gif

Everyone licks arse to some extent.

Nowt wrong with it anyway if you ask me.

All promoters are aware of the fact some DJs lick arse to get where they are today.

And i am also certain that promoters lick arse aswell, to get the Promoter Status.

No, I do agree that you have got to get to know the promoter, as they are looking for someone with the right attitude, as well as good Dj, but I just feel really sick of all the politics involved with the scene, and sometimes wonder if it is worth it.

See ya'll later!

I've never licked arse to get a gig. Then again I've not had many gigs... case in point! smile.gif
