TWO of Liverpool's superclubs are joining forces to create a huge new force in UK live entertainment.

International nightspot Cream and live band specialist Lomax Entertainments are developing a one-stop-shop for all night fun in the heart of the UK's music city.

Part of Cream's premises in Wolstenholme Square will be turned over to the Lomax, which will close its current L2 headquarters off Lime Street.

Both brands will remain separate but the single location will rival any other in the country for dance music and live acts.

One of the engineers of the convergence has been Layth Bunni, the former head of the Liverpool Vision regeneration agency who has emerged as chief executive of Lomax Entertainments.

He said: "We had felt for some time that we should be in a more central location in the city and what could be better to be at Cream, in the core of the action?

"It is a great partnership that will create a significant landmark venue. When you think of when bands play and when the dance scene starts, it is a perfect match.

"This will be the place to come for great entertainment."

The Lomax will utilise The Courtyard, part of Cream that can host about 1,000 paying customers. Iain Hoskins, promoter for Cream's Nation venue, commented: "This is an incredibly exciting development.

"The Courtyard is a brilliant venue with a world-class reputation and has a history of programming live music within a dance area.

"This move also allows us to focus on other areas of the club which arguably hosts one of the most famous Saturday nights in the world.

"The Courtyard/Lomax development will cement the fact that Liverpool really is a music city and also a great advert for the Capital of Culture bid." The final dance gigs at the Courtyard will be held over the weekend of May 3 and 4.

Dr Bunni, former head of Liverpool's regeneration efforts, has relished his new role of helping create jobs.

Lomax Entertainments has created a second Liverpool fame school in Great Crosshall Street, which has 100 students on a twoyear course.

The venture targets 16 to 18-year-olds, most of whom would not have a chance of getting on to a graduate course with Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

It is hoped students taking diplomas run by Liverpool Community College will find jobs in the music and entertainment industries.

Dr Bunni said: "I think I had come to the end of my time with Liverpool Vision because that sort of thing was never really my background anyway.

"To be involved in a business like this which will hopefully create a future for young people and nurturing talent is satisfying."

Groups and students on the course will be encouraged to perform at the new Lomax venue as part of their development.

In addition, the Lomax is looking to open up a second academy and live music venue in Stoke-on-Trent.

The Braveheart Records studios and rehearsal rooms developed in Great Crosshall Street received backing from businessman Trevor Burke...SUPL:
