The legendary DJ and producer Tim Lennox has recently been diagnosed with cancer of the stomach but in the same breath, is positive about its outlook. Tim is infamous for his production work under the guise T-Empo – hitting the charts with the vocal house heaven of ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’ followed by the club smash ‘The Blue Room’, an essential tune for Dave Seaman and Sasha. Tim is a DJ in every sense of the word, renown for his long serving and regular slots across the Galaxy FM network on a Saturday night. In February 2002, an incident led to Tim being referred to hospital in his hometown Manchester where an investigation led to the discovery of a tumour in his stomach. Radiotherapy began immediately and has been ongoing. This past week though Tim has gone into remission with close and regular monitoring. Tim Lennox goes way back to Monday nights at that temple of raw culture – The Hacienda – and his production history reads like a how’s how of how to make a classic dance tune. Tim says that it’s his love of music that has kept him going, he says: “This is one of the hardest periods of my life. I’ve obviously had to withdraw from my gigs but a minimal amount of studio work and my regular show on Galaxy has really kept me going. Music’s always been my life and has been my best friend this past year. I lost my two closet friends in the same year last year so to be honest when I found out I had cancer, I just went numb but I’m now very grateful and looking forward to a good year ahead.” Tim and his doctors are all very positive as the cancer has been caught fairly early and with a healthy change in lifestyle, Tim can look forward to re building an active career. A record deal with Breathless Records includes a long awaited re-working of ‘The Blue Room’ and the forthcoming single ‘Ground Zero’, his ever-popular Galaxy FM show will continue building it’s audience and he’ll finally be able to start gigging again whilst also dedicating time to raising money and awareness of cancer research. Tim is very aware that his tumour was caught through a very lucky twist of fate.
