The time has come when I need to upgrade my computer. I use it mainly for the internet and games and therefore need

a pretty high spec.

I am prob going to go for :

P4 2.8 Ghz, (although I may wait until 3 Ghz is released in Nov)

512 Meg RAM

120 GB HD

ATI Radeon 9700 128 MB Graphics card.

I have looked at Dell, Evesham and SSC Carrera.

What make of PC do you use and what's it like ? At the mo I've got a Dell and athough the computers is excellent their technical support is shite !! Given its going to cost me quite a bit of cash I really don't wana make a big mistake !!

At the moment i'm using a Dell. 1.8 p4, 512mb RAM, 80gb HDD running windows xp, and to be totally honest, i'm not fooking impressed! My old pc was one that i had made for me was only running a 333 AMD k4 processor with 8gb of HDD and 64 mb of RAM, and i was using windows 98 and didn't have half as many problems as i'm having with this pile o' shite!

The CD-R keeps busting or nor responding, the pc itself keeps on crashing and it seems to be constantly wanting to send error reports to windows/dell. Their tech support is pants, as you said and they reckon it'll take up to 4 weeks to get a new CD-R for my pc .. and i have to send it off to them!! Sod that - i'd never buy another dell again mad.gif

I'm looking into getting a new one again, but think i'll build it this time instead of wasting my money on another branded one, cos quite frankly - they're not worth it!

If you think you can, just upgrade it yourself, much easier and saves money. I used second hand stuff from people on forums and got a motherboard, Athlon 1.4 Ghz and a 64mb Geforce 4 (mx admittedly) for under £150! If you want to go the manufacturer route, I've heard good things about Evesham, your best bet is to pick up a computer mag and look at the sysems they review - most of the time they can be quite trustworthy.

Good luck!
