Do you think that everyone sees the same colours. Like what I see as red other people mite see as green?

and do you think that on other planets in other universes they mite have colours that we haven't seen and would we be able to see them if we travelled there?

Just something I wonder about sometimes. confused.gif

I hate to disappoint you, but remembering my physics, colour is just dependent on the wavelength of the light, and so its behaviour will be constant throughout the univerese, as our eyes are programmed to interpret a wavelength as a colour.

I do wonder if it is possible that people's brains are wired different ways, so that what would normally be wired as "blue", gets miswired to green. I don't see why not, I suppose that is what colour blindness is. I had a friend who saw wet grass as orange!!

But what if in other parts of the universe their were different light waves caused by some rip in the universe and so there were new colours, would our eyes see them? Would that make stuff invisible to us and could we use it to make invisibility suits?

light is a spectrum of wavelengths, going from ultraviolet to infrared, and is one continuous spread. You can't get "extra" wavelengths, the same way as you can't get extra numbers between "1 & 10", you can't suddenly get the number "fish" between 6 & 7. Something to do with the fundamental laws of physics

coool Pepsi - never knew you were interested in this stuff !! I cant find anyone to discuss these sorts of things because they find them boring!

I used to think that we all possibly see different colours as we are only referencing them by labels and what we're told a specific colour. Recently I've decided we do all see the same colours as you can prove light and dark so you can probably prove the spectrum of colours.

James - I spend far too much time wondering about bizarre things like this. Love talking about them though but I get a lot of strange looks so I've stopped but looking 4ward to having a conversation 2nite.

So Blink there must be colours that we can't see without help like UV and the red beams things that they have in bank robbing films.

THings like UV and IR are past the capability of your eyes, a bit like you can't hear a dog whistle because it's frequency is too high. The lasers in bank robbing films are due to the actual make up of the light beam. The sorce of the light is coherent and so it means that the beam is intense and blah blah blah, can't remember anymore!
