The Hardest DJ Going?

Not blowing my own trumpet or anything, but, im told quite a few times that im the hardest dj theve ever heard.

Playing a mix of hard and dirty techno, hard Karim, Glazby style hh, and finishing my sets with selected tunes I play at +45 rpm instead of 33rpm. The place goes nuts, only Decades in Digbeth, but get a good croud in there and allways get possitive feed back.

Go up to speeds of + 200 BPM.

Last person who said anything about my Djing said that i make Marylin Manson look like a sweet heart hehe.

If u want hard DJ's then hardhouse DJ's are out of the equation straight away.

U want some1 who plays hardcore gabba.Try getting a tape by scorpio-190BPM hard as [censored] nasty [censored].Pisses over glazby or karim easily.

I'd still prefer to listen to a set by karim though.

It would totally have to be some kind of frozen man standing in front of a pair of rotating decks with nothing on them, now that's HARD! eek.gif

Depends on your definition of "hard".

To my ear, it just sounds cheesy if you crank up the BPM much above 150bpm. Stupidly fast gabba is case in point, it generally lacks any sense of funk - it literally does just go "boom boom boom" (to quote my mum!!)

I think the word I would use is "mindless" not "hard". smile.gif

Some of the "hardest" music (to my ear) is really tough, percussive, intense, dark, minimal techno. In the spirit of trumpet-blowing, I've also been told the same thing ("you're the hardest DJ I've ever heard" etc) but I never play above 145bpm!! shocked.gif

If you want to be anal about music theory (tough, I do!!) there's more to "perceived tempo" than the BPM anyway. The amount of syncopation and semiquaver movement also determines how hard/fast/funky a tune sounds. As does the level of repetition and the sparsity/complexity of the arrangement. So you can have a 160bpm tune that sounds really dull and plodding, and equally you can have a 140bpm tune that is really intense and stomping!

Besides, any old DJ could go out and buy all the fastest / hardest tunes in existence, but it takes a more discerning musician to build an interesting set which is more than just a sequence of samey hard tunes.

Wahey! someone else on the board who likes Hardcore! Although Scorpio is too cheesy, Producer is the don!

But the topic is 'the hardest dj' and he is just stating that he thinks Scorpio is harder than the hardest HH jocks!

(P.S - Sorry to be picky but Hardcore and Gabber are different styles)

Agreed! The debate on what defines 'hard' could go on forever!

Have you heard enough of it to back that statement up??

I would say you havent!

Each to their own though innit! I find some Hardcore tracks 'funky' where as outsiders would say it was just 'noise'!

I think the word I would use is "mindless" not "hard".

Hard House?? grin.giflaugh.gif

totally agree with every thing u've said there liquid - i play at around 150bpm but i have to try to keep my beet rates down a tad as i like to plys hard techno with my hardhouse - still perfecting my style (as have recently got new decks so i dont have to punish myself with belt drives ne more grin.gif) but i'm a strong beliver of intermixing tunes to bring out a tighter hard sound rather than just uping the tempo.
