Ikon's B-day weekender

Things are still a little hazy but here is my weekend as I remember it!

 

FRIDAY JAN 31st

 

Had a day off college as the rest of my group had gone to Eurodisney so I decided to make it an all dayer and cracked open a bottle of JD and proceeded to get smashed before heading off to Liverpool where I was booked to MC at a night called Horizon being held at The Zanzibar in the city centre.

Got into the club where a DJ called Tracka was playing some 'fluffy' trance, which was suprising as this event is a Hardcore Techno and Hard Trance night. Said my hello's to all the regular Hardcore faithfull I see most weekends and made my way to the bar. Last time I was at the Zanzibar I seem to remember a double JD and coke being about £5 (!) but this time round I was charged around about £3, so either the bird behind the bar was in awe of the superstar MC she was serving or I have a shite memory from last time! Either way it was a bonus and I wasnt one to complain!

 

Couldnt be arsed going on the mic for the trance set and so waited till the Hardcore kicked in. At 10:30 one of the hot new talents in the Hardcore scene DJ D-NY took over on the dexx, by this time I had necked maybe 4 doubles and was starting to sway a little (not to the music!). From here the night is a little blurry but im pretty sure I made an absolute prick out of myself on the mic! I had been working on some DnB style lyrics as one of the DJ's on the night plays break driver Hardcore with a lot of DnB/Hip-Hop breakdowns but in my pissed state I kept forgetting what I was saying and tried to freestyle but failed miserably, ended up singing along to the Hip-Hop lyrics that are in the tunes anyway but I think I still got the wordz wrong!

Oh yeah, I also got into a little ruckus with some wanker wannabe MC who tried to snatch the mic off me and when I refused he started giving me [censored] saying he hates the Welsh and to watch myself as he has had run in's with the Welsh!!!

again in my pissed state I told him to have his best go but was reminded by my mates from Birkenhead that picking a fight with a scouser in Liverpool with no back up was a stoopid idea and in hindsight it probably was! fcukin wanker!

 

I did sober up a little towards the end of the night and found my clothes coverd in the black grime that usually covers the floor in clubs, fcuk know how it got there!!!!

said my goodbyes and set off home, got in at 5am and went straight to sleep.

 

SATURDAY FEB 1st

 

Suprisingly I woke up without a hangover, but my legs were hurting a little!

went to buy some new records and generally chilled out, preparing for the night ahead.

We went to a new night called Hardware which is held at Time in Bangor which is the Bangor university's student union.

Although its right on my doorstep I have never been there despite them having some quality DJ's week after week, mainly due to me being chased through Bangor city center by a group of blood thirsty Bangor headz last time I went out there (when I was about 16) this is down to rivalry between towns in N.Wales and Llandudno and Bangor do not get on!!!

 

Anyways, Hardware is a new Techno and DnB/Hip-Hop night and this was there second event. My mate promotes it so I managed to get g-list.

I got in and was amazed at how cool the club actually is, from the outside it looks like a block of flats but inside you would think it was a superclub, with uv drapes all over the show and a really good system!!!

one of the residents was warming the crowd up nicely with some pretty funky techno, dont know any names of tunes as Techno aint really my thing.

Went to the bar and realised that we were in a students union bar and the beer prices were dirt cheap! wohoo! messy times ahead!!

I also had half a gramme of coke on me!

needless to say by the end of the night I was totally minced! I lost count after 8 double JD and coke's! everyone was buying me drinks (why cant we have a b-day every week?!)

 

Musically wise the night was also banging, spent most the night floating between both rooms as the muzik was top notch throughout. A few mates of mine who are a DnB/Hip-Hop collective called Killa Kru were on and they asked me to MC as I used to do a bit of DnB mc'ing and they know I love Hip-Hop but the mic decided to stop working, maybe it was just aswell after the night before's performance!! he he!

met some scousers who I had been talkin to the ngiht before and had apparently blagged them to come down tonight! heh!

 

the main guests in the DnB room, Simo 'Bassline' Smith and DJ Dollar who were on a Helter Skelter/Club Sidewinder tour were decent enough but it was the main room guest DJ Vortex who played set of the night for me.

He started off really with some really funky but dirty techno but being a good mate of mine I had asked him earlier to play some Hard Trance and he finished the last half hour with some bangin Italian Hard Trance!! Raaaa!

to put a downer on the night though some cunt spiked my drink!!! I found a pill in the bottom of my glass! I wouldnt of minded but I gave up pills 2 years ago so I was a bit pissed off, didnt feel the effects of it though!

 

All in all it was an awesome night!

 

SUNDAY FEB 2nd

 

My Birthday!

took it easy all day, didnt even have a drink but I was still wrecked from friday and saturday anyway!

 

That was my weekend anyways, Im sure more details will emergre when I speak to mates over the next few days!

 

Looking forward to this weekend now!

will probably check out Eddie Halliwell who is playing in Llandudno on friday.
