i dont know of any sites, but i wouldnt do it myself, no matter how much you think you know someone, you dont.

i realised that a "mate" that i met on a site was a jelous nutter and he knew all my mates (but was sweetness/butter wouldnt melt to them)

the thought of being in a strange country with strange people not being able to speak the lingo if anything happens is enough for me to say dont do it unless your really sure, brave.....and stupid

ignore the stupid bit........its probably an over reaction, but that is what i would have said if a mate would of asked me.

sorry.gif i was no help, but you will probably get loads of "you go for it posts" to count this one out

Thanx for replying lousie.

i know its not 100% safe but one of the area's i want to visit is apparently not safe for lone female travellers.

plus when im in a strange situation i go really shy and scared.

However this is something i really want to do,yet i dont know how or where to meet like minded people?

hmmm.... not sure what to do now huh.gif

I've not really travelled that much apart from round Australia, the best way to do it is on your own. You tend to hook with people going the same way as you anyway and travel for a while. Then you either go your own way or find another group going your way. Not sure if that helps ?

Thats so true! and if you're alone you don't have anyone to have disagreements with or fall out with which is great! I've done loads of travelling and yes, some has been on my own. I think you feel safer going with someone else, but its definately more of an adventure going it alone!

Alright kitty, where you looking to travel to and when?

I've had the luck of "circum navigating the seven seas", as you might say, having been to America, Africa, the Middle East, Thailand, and to most of Europe; and its always been with good people. I've kept in contact with lots of mates travelling around the world at the mo, all in different places.

Alex V, who you met with me on sat morning, left on sat night for Kenya and is making his way to S.Africa in a month. So far, between him and myself are planning a world tour where a few of us: eliot, sparky, evil phil, myself and anyone else, who is more than welcome to join us, will be joining him in Thailand, Australia, Fiji, and Latin America.

So whatever your looking for if i can be of use let me know?

If anyone else wants to know what the beat on the street is like, just hit me back for the lowdown.

Hasta proxima

I went to various places in India last summer, and it isn't especially dangerous except in the North and in inner cities. As long as you are sensible, because white westerm women get LOADS of attention and it can make you feel quite intimidated.

You need to respect different cultures andd religions, and not walk around dressed and acting like we do here, otherwise you do attract trouble.

But if you are sensible, then there are much more dangerous places to go than India, and there are some amazing things to see smile.gif

Hey Kitty,

I'm still at Uni' so have the pleasure of plenty of holidays. I get a month off for easter, and four months in the summer. My mum used to work for the airlines so i'm privy to staff discounted fares, but they finish after this summer, so reason enough to make plans for last world tour of sorts.

Thailand is one of my favourite places in the world. I went out there for a month last year and was so tempted to stay for way longer, after meeting westerners that had been living there for over 20 yrs. The most important thing is that in Thailand its all about haggling for prices. The first price you get quoted is basically three times what you should really be paying. Bangkok is not my idea of a good place to stay too long in. Thai women are compulsive and serial lyers and they do a lot of the selling. So get down to the south where the islands are, asap. Koh Tao is the best and cheapest place to learn to scuba dive, and easy to buy diet ###### over the counter. Ko Samui is just touristy. Ko Phangan is world known for the full moon parties and around full moon packed with travellers, but if you have the inside score, you won't be staying on over populated, ruined beaches. Taxi boats are the best way to get to the others beaches as there is only a few roads on the island. Roads mean people have been there so you're onto it good if have to taxi boat it. If you want to see where the film The Beach was filmed go to Ko Phi Phi, its good for the lash, but its a muslim island so do respect their ways. Basically the islands in the Gulf of Thailand are Catholic, so pretty much anything goes, but be careful in muslim areas as its stricter.

Anyways, this might have been a bit much to post so will stop here. Call me for a chat or we can discuss at Serious this month. It would be great to join you in march, where else you thinking of going, as gonna stay with mates in oz for a month too.

Peace and free love, Kris

I've been all over the place, USA, Australia, Far East (Thailand/Malaysia/Indonesia etc) Africa, all over Europe and so on....

My advice, just use your common sense, stick to main routes etc when you're travelling alone and don't trust anyone! Never have any expensive jewellery or valuables in sight and keep important items like passport, tickets etc with you at all times. thumbs.gif
