the problem with hard house is that:

a) it dont lend itself to creativity behind the decks

B) the top DJs have got comfortable so they dont have to try hard to play a 'good' set

i honnestly reccon if the tidy boys/lashes/rob tissera/lee haslam/etc forgot thier record box they could just borrow thier m8s and still playt he exact same set

djs like ann savage, farley and BK do offer some variety to thier hard house my playing non hard house/trance tunes. and b4 i get slated 4 saying this about ann savage, i know 4 a fact that she plays techno in her sets which is more than most hard dance djs would dare to do

i agree with *everything* said here, especially that second paragraph. sometimes i wonder how long ago half these DJs actually went into a record shop; "record shopping" doesn't mean sitting waiting for brown 12" mailers to come through your letterbox from Tidy HQ.

roll on the weekender; a good chance to judge who's got talent in hh/ht DJing and who's just obviously dead wood, all playing in the same setting and to the same crowd. and i'm a lot more critical than most; two or three dodgy mixes in a set and i begin to wonder what was i thinking when i bought the ticket. it's not really excusable. especially with Lashes (like I've said before, she didn't impress me one bit)

dondo> i'd definitely love to catch Lottie play somewhere! heard so many good things about her as a DJ.

I am kinda baffled about what this post is about, there are good women DJ's and [censored] women DJ's, just like there are with men. I saw Lashes on Saturday at SS and thought she rocked (actually prefered her to Lab 4, and you don't know how painful it is for me to admit that), but there have been plenty of occassions that I have seen her and she bored me senseless. I love Andy Farley, but there have been times when I haven't liked his sets. A friend of mine went to see a male DJ once (who's name slips my mind, but is famous), he came on, played [censored] for 20 minutes, announced he wasn't bolloxed enough to play, went off for half an hour, came back and played a blinder.

If they are good enough, or know the right people, let them get on with it. If you don't like them, don't pay to go see them.

You're getting a slapping for that.

Anyway, back onto topics. Women DJ's are like male DJ's - they all have good and bad days. I've heard Ferry Corsten fall flat on his arse once or twice, so it can happen to anyone.

However, because women DJ's are still considered to be something of a novelty element in clubland, they are therefore critiqued a lot more intensely than their male counterparts.

Women DJ's do have a somewhat easier wide, once you disregard technical ability, as they have a natural gimmick that can be sold straight back to the clubbers. This is how we get a succession of half arsed female DJ's getting to play at half decent clubs like Passion ( wink.gif ).

However, I have to relate back to the earlier point of it's not what you can do, but who you know. Beat matching isn't the most difficult thing in the world. Even DJing can be picked up fairly easily. But if you know the right promoter for the right night, you can grab yourself a headlining slot with very little [censored] on your part.

Harder. Faster. Better. Stronger. Badder. Smarter. Wub Wub

Have none of you heard *TING*? She [censored] rocks the place and I've heard her do blinding sets in hard house/techno/ambient D&B/chilled etc. She knows her music. notworthy.gif

Also had a good time at HHA with Donna Birt. Have to say she is also well fit!

i wish there were some female trance djs. girls all tend to be into the hard house thing which to me enforces the novelty element to what they are doing. Lottie can be [censored] wicked and i dont think you can class her as a novelty dj.

female djs get a hard time of it. playing fast music thats always fits the same formula is an easy way to go when they start out but if you want earn real respect they need to play something where they can develop musically.

i wanna see some wicked female trance djs out there!! that would impress me!! any fucker can play hard house.

I have heard loads of people say this about *ting*, but whenever I heard her play at the Turtle (which was a lot as I used to be a regular), I always thought she was uninspiring!!

Gonna have to go listen to her play a club night at some point

Come on down to Cyberdance at the Fridge on Easter Sunday. 11am-8pm. *TING* B2B with Karim.

It's her birthday and she's having a massive party down there. Incidently my mate just got signed to her label and is the new Cyberdance/Turtle resident. The name is REH and he [censored] pumps it up. thumbs.gifbouncy.gif
