CTW Members Rob D Posted July 24, 2002 CTW Members Share Posted July 24, 2002 Just to start a debate. Compared to Vestax, they are just not good enough. It was a great design 25 years ago when released, but they need to update it as they will get phased out in the next couple of years by competitors - i.e. Vestax, Stanton, Numark. Just look at MOS London, they got stanton, and home did have vestax. Any comments? I have used both and love my PDX-2000's. CTW Reviewers Wub Wub Posted July 24, 2002 CTW Reviewers Share Posted July 24, 2002 give me my nice shiny Stanton STR8-100's any day of the [censored] week. Technics have just sat back and done [censored] all to try and improve the 1200/10's. As a result, in terms of features, both Vestax and Stanton (and even gemini and Numark recently) have overtaken them. 78rpm, reverse play, straight arm, digital line, tempo lock......Technics have none of these. Many of the other manufacturers do similar priced decks with more features and higher torque (for that last point, I'm again thinking back to my STR8-100's) Technics suck. Quote Harder. Faster. CTW Members Diablo Posted July 24, 2002 CTW Members Share Posted July 24, 2002 OSM - how can you justify using a pair of Vestax - they look like a kiddies toy, something thats been produced by fisher price and turned out by kids in China. Technics have always been the industry standard, and will be for a long time to come, I have 3 pairs of the fuckers, MK2's, Limiteds and the New MK3's, and they kick ass, the only thing that VEstax have on their side is the +/-10% pitch, btu who ever goes that far anyway? -10 is for pussys that cant mix, and +10 is way to high, unless you want your set to sound like chipmonks on heat - im not slaggin you off personally mate, each to their own, and everyones got their own opinion, but i think you'll find that there are more technics users on here than Vestax, Vestax mixers kick ass, shame their decks look so [censored] shitty! CTW Members ajfrench Posted July 24, 2002 CTW Members Share Posted July 24, 2002 Technics are & will be the industry standard forever. Any other deck I have used such as Stanton & Vestax, seem to be shite. Vestax wasnt too bad, although I still prefer Technics any day. CTW Reviewers Wub Wub Posted July 24, 2002 CTW Reviewers Share Posted July 24, 2002 PDX's do look a bit like a kiddies toy at times, but some of the other decks (gemini PDT-6000's spring to mind) just look plain sexy. Technics have got comfy and not made any improvements, and now they are facing the backlash. Quote Harder. Faster. Better. Stronger. Badder. Smarter. CTW Members ajfrench Posted July 24, 2002 CTW Members Share Posted July 24, 2002 I agree with Alasdairm on this one. It all depends on what people can do on the decks, although saying that, it's more the mixer what people can do various things with, however, Technics are the industry standard, simple, yet effective. CTW Members Rob D Posted July 24, 2002 Author CTW Members Share Posted July 24, 2002 I find the ultra pitch vital. For my hard techno sets I whack both on +10 on the ultrapitch, so I am effectively starting my sets at +10. Why do you think dj's like luke slater, picotto etc.. get the engineer to tweak the technics to +16 rather the +/- 8? Are you saying they are crap kiddie dj's? No, they just want to go faster. CTW Members Rob D Posted July 24, 2002 Author CTW Members Share Posted July 24, 2002 Sorry, just to correct you, vestax are made in japanese sweat shops, exactly the same as your technics, so that is hardly a valid point. CTW Members Rob D Posted July 24, 2002 Author CTW Members Share Posted July 24, 2002 My point is that, yes the technics are a nice deck, and much better than cheap gemimi belt drives or similar, but they are no longer the world leader, some people want more from their deck. As for them being the industry standard, at the moment they still are, but more and more clubs are moving to vestax or stanton and due to the range now of high quality decks, it will come down to individual owners/dj's as to what decks are used.
