CTW DJs Freano Posted July 28, 2002 CTW DJs Share Posted July 28, 2002 Arent the DMC champinships hooked up with Technics, Im sure they culd do the same with any other top end turntable, they just have never tried. If they are gonna use technics at the DMC why practice one anything else? Technics look the part but PDX are the future as thing go more hi-tec . CTW Members Nick G Posted August 5, 2002 CTW Members Share Posted August 5, 2002 I've been using Technics SL's (1200 & 1210's) since about '91. I have owned my current pair of 1200's since late '92. I have had nothing but pleasure from these little beauties and the sound quiality from them is still as good today is it ever was. When Technics designed these decks, they revolutionised the club scene forever. Every club, up until a couple of years ago, had Technics fitted as standard - how many other examples can you think of that have stood the test of time as well, and STILL have people bying them in their masses? Yeah admittedly on all these new decks you can do all kinds of technical wizardry at the flick of a switch, but let's face it, if you want or need something that's goona take all the fun, skill and enjoyment out of mixing, ask yourself this ... AM I A DJ? There's an old saying that still rings true; ''If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'' I wouldn't swap mine for the world !!!
CTW DJs LittleMissLoud Posted August 6, 2002 CTW DJs Share Posted August 6, 2002 i hav technics cos they r what u find in most clubs, and snobbery keeps it that way, but with other companies coming up with bigger and better things it's only a matter of time before dj's turn thier backs on thier beloved technics technics need 2 come out with something better than the mark 3, which IMO were just a gimmick if they want2 stay at the top. thats just my humble opinion though!! CTW Reviewers Wub Wub Posted August 6, 2002 CTW Reviewers Share Posted August 6, 2002 Until something else becomes industry standard, Technics will still occupy the plateau of superiority, despite having less torque AND less features than many of the competitors top of the range models. CTW Members Leesh Posted February 24, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted February 24, 2003 technics do the job they were made for and they keep doin it. they dont have any special lil gadgets inside, which could break easily. CTW DJs Guyster Posted February 25, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted February 25, 2003 There's an old saying that still rings true; ''If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'' I wouldn't swap mine for the world !!! What he said.... for what it's worth...... I have 1210s and I''m just about to get some Mk3s (only cos I can get them cheaper than Mk2s). I know that everyone slags 1200s/1210s as they're so 'old' but it's quality that matters. I've been mixing for 3 years, nearly all on 1210s, and I've also played Stantons, Numark TTX-1s, and a lot on Vestax of various sorts, and I still love the Technics. Now it's personal taste for a lot of us, but for me there's a few things I'd back it up with. 1) build quality - unsurpassed. The Stantons are good and the TTX-1s are solid as [censored] but I still think 1210s are top for this. The Vestax feel tinny, and the tone arm is v v light, and the pitch control is v v v light. Where you can inch the 1210s up bit by bit, you can nudge the vestax q a bit as there's not resistance. 2) longevity.... I've caned my 1210s and they're still pretty much good as new. I've changed needles and carts but nothing else has come clsoe to breaking and it's all still in lont condition. 3) gimmicks.... well I know there are some great things about now, simple ones like quartz lock, +10 pitch (tho these are now both on the 1210 mk 3) and all sorts of +-50 pitch and diplays and all sorts. For me though, what I mix (house and prog) I have all I need. I've played on a lot of Vestax at mate's and out, and I never use any of the features. If you're scratching, maybe it's different, but even then I'd prbably go for the TTX-1s..... So, as far as I'm concerned, it's still technics. Their quality is unsupassed, and they don't need gimmicks to sell them. I'm alwasy up for trying new stuff, but so far I've seen nothing to make me change my mind. So there. CTW DJs Guyster Posted February 25, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted February 25, 2003 Guy how much can you get Mark 3's for mate. I wanna get myself a pair ? Aaah it's not quite that simple.... my brother's got my 1210s now, and I'm getting a pair of 2nd hand Mk3's off a guy at Ministry.... apologies if it made it sound as if they were new.... I've got no decks at the mo! Quote WiLDCHiLD - where spacehoppers and pom poms rule
CTW DJs Tony P Posted February 25, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted February 25, 2003 Arrrgh....poor Guy, that must be a right bummer not having decks, but you can't wait. One of my friend has a contact who apparentely recons he can get a pair of mk3's for 500 notes, so i'm gonna see if he is full of bull [censored] and call his bluff. CTW Members Magicman Posted February 25, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted February 25, 2003 Technics don't have much torque, but then, how much do you need? I have a really problem mixing on my mates vestax decks, because they have more torque. If I wanna bring it back in line, it's hard to judge it. They go +/- 10, but then again, I got mine set on +/- 16.
