WEEKLY CLUB CRASH

Heres some info you already probably knew!

Gatecrasher has attempted to send panic waves through the UK clubbing industry by claiming "Weekly clubs are finished" after pulling out of their weekly slot at Republic in Sheffield, to conduct monthly parties instead.

Numbers at the club in recent months have been very poor, and low door prices failed to remedy the problem. Gatecrasher MD, Simon Raine said, "Everyone knows, but has been too scared to admit it, weekly clubs are finished."

Gatecrasher finishes up on 1 June 2002 and kicks off their new monthly gigs on 29 June 2002. The club is also holding monthly events at heaven in London.

It's thought that Liverpool club Cream, who has also experienced attendance problems in recent months, will follow in the footsteps of Gatecrasher. The club has already announced that the famous Courtyard section of the venue is to be turned into a separate area for live gigs, and will no longer be used as a part of Cream's club nights. The Courtyard, which launched the carreer of the likes of Seb & Oakenfold, will become The Lomax, which is part of an already existing group of live venues in the city. paul Oakenfold will play the last ever Courtyard club set on 5 May 2002, as part of Cream's three-day bank holiday event.

At the most recent Miami Winter Music Conference (March), both clubs were notable by their absence.

I don't think it's an attempt to "panic" the clubbing industry, I think they're just admitting that there are just not enough dedicated clubbers with enough money to go out to big nights every week even with low door prices, having said that I think cutting it down to monthly is probably not too sensible either as it may lead to overcrowding of the nights, once a fortnight would surely have been a better solution, just my opinions

Your right Dinger. I think Gatecrasher etc will try their monthly events for a few months, then they'll probably change to every fortnight.

This kind of stuff makes me worry that soon hardly anyone will like dance music any more (F*ckin rock-sh*te)

It will probably also happen when I finally make that dance floor smash,

*sigh* oh well, I think we'll be ok, i think
