[ CTW ] - Site Migration - the saga continues ...

Well I've got everything across to this new board now and I know there are a few who dont like it but trust me in time you will get used to it and it really isnt that bad. Like I say it came to a point where it was VITAL to move to another forum engine anyway as the board was slowing down and posts were starting to go missing. Also, this board is far more configurable and I can integrate my new site developments into it very nicely.

 

Please let me know if you get the following error when you try to login;

 

"Username/Password not found. Please use your back button to return to the previous page."

 

I've also noticed that some PMs (Private Messages) are missing from the old system - I can get to these on the old system so let me know if you've lost any vital ones.

 

Profile pictures - still working on a problem in this area.

 

Last topic on forum summary - I'm working on getting this feature back - currently only the time and the user is displayed.

 

Active topics - currently these links are at the bottom of the main summary page - I will try and add 'Active Topics' to the top of the screen in the menu bar.

 

Also, please let me know if you have any other problems.

The main thing I don't like about this new site is that in the "last posts" bit in the forum summary you can't see what the topic was, only who wrote it. I think that needs to be changed coz for example, whats the point in having an FAO section when it can't be shown on the forum summary???

Do yah' see what I mean? Is there anything you can do about it???

Yep - I'm sure I can sort that out Tara - this I think is post people's concern at the moment - along with some people having their login names displayed instead of their display name - in fact all login names are now shown instead of display names. All of this can and will be fixed. I'm just having major problems with the photo galleries at the moment which is why I still haven't sorted out these message board issues.

 

By the way...

* you can turn off 'post preview' in your profile.

* you dont have to view topics as threaded - just click on the 'flat' button

* you can hide from being seen online - its an option in your profile

* you dont have to go straight to your profile page when you login you can be directed to forum summary instead - again all these options in your profile

* all the original smilies will be back when I have time to add them - as I say if it wasnt for this gallery thing not working i'd be able to sort this out. I'm afraid I couldnt even get the old message board working on our new servers either for some strange reason but to be honest we had to make the change anyway as we are growing fairly quickly and the board would of had literally ground to a halt / even got corrupted if we stayed on the old version - i'm sure everyone remembers the odd post going missing - we cant have this.

 

I can get recent visitors etc.. back showing at the top as well at some point should we want it.

 

On the plus side you will notice that an envelope now flashes when you have new PMs, it should also all be a lot faster.

I would like to add that I've seen this new forum and what it can do and some of the features on here are [censored] hot! James was showing me what it can do the other day and trust me everyone this is TEN TIMES better than the old one, once you get used to the new features you will love it, once James has ironed out the small problems that Tara has mentioned it will be nothing less than AWESOME!

Ok, ill be the first to admit that i really didnt like this a couple of days ago when i first saw it, i even didnt bother coming on for a whole day (definately now like me) but now iv had a look round and started posting a few times, it is getting easier to use and understand and im discovering loadsa cool things that the other board didnt have.

 

There are still a lot of things that could be added/ironed out but im sure that James has them all in hand and they will be sorted out soon hopefully!!

 

Also wana say thanx to James for puttin all this w.o.r.k, time and effort into the site both before and now and i hope that things get better and better for the site too!!
