dubrovnik Dubrovnik - Let's make it the New Ibiza

Ibiza's fantastic, but [censored] over priced, IMHO. In the early days, Ku, ect, when the Spanish economy was on it knees it was fine, now it's a second [censored] mortgage.

 

Upside

After years of Civil war, the guy's in Dubrovnik (Croatia) need something to reboost the tourist trade. You can drive to Dubrovnik from most of mainland Europe. Loads of hotels and infrastructure, beautiful women and loads of nude beaches. Fantastic climate, and war ravaged economy, so everything’s quite cheap.

The clubbers from the Russian federation, Poland ect need an equivalent venue to Ibiza that they can easily get too. It's perfect.

 

Downside.

No real clubs or venues, but as Croatia will soon be going into the EEC loads of grants will be available.

 

Get in on the ground floor, I say, we need a groundswell of opinion to get this thing going. Remember Oakie started it all of in Ibiza, CTW could start it all off in Dubrovnik

In simple terms, Ibiza won't / can't be taken over !

Look at Ayia Napa, nearest competitor and what a load of cack that place is.

Yeah true.. but its just been topped up and topped up with pap. Why do people go? for the beach's, the music? the atmosphere?!?! - I know you all luuurve Ibiza on here etc but I think think of 5 places just off the top of my head now that have MUCH better hard house/hard trance/funky house Much better beach style life and ALOT less tossers...

Dont get me wrong I do agree with you that its definitely got worse this year but I was mainly fooked off with the poor attendance - it kinda killed the mood for me. But I dont think there were as many beer monsters as there were last year - maybe it depends on the night/club you go to but i with you lot that i'm [censored] off with TV painting pretty or ugly misleading pictures.

I thought Ibiza was quiet this year too.....but I put it down to the fact i was visiting the isle later in the season than last year....

 

Personally....I still think the White Island has alot to offer....but gets a bad press and cashes in on the big clubs and beer monsters wanting to "taste the club" experience....just for the hype....

 

I do think the big clubs, however need to offer something back to the clubbers.....like the odd free night or cheaper tickets....after all we made it the clubbing island and what it stands for!!!

I thought Ibiza was great this year the trick is to go where the camera crews dont stay away from the west end and all its beer boys and enjoy out of the way clubs and bars ..... Ibiza is much more than just san antonio.....

 

as for Dubrovnik the location is not cental enough in europe to be a popular choice . If you look at the czech republic who have a fantastic location in the dead center of europe than i think you would be closer to the mark. They have some great nightlife already, but some big clubs would really [censored] well there. and like Ibiza's san antonio, the czech republic is not just prague. They have come a long way since 1986.....

CR great place, not amazingly warm & ting, don't forget we're looking for beach life as well as nightlife.

 

Having worked in Ibiza when I was in my early 20's I can tell you that that place is a [censored] of a lot more expensive now in real terms than ever b4. But then you could say that for the whole of spain. Every year I've been it's cost more and more.

Ibiza has been going as the clubbing capital of the world since 1989, that is nearly 13 years, so all the club and Bar infrastructure built up, needs to be sustained during a short season by a large influx of clubbers/tourists. Other than tourism Ibizas got [censored] all in terms of an economy. Bareclona / London /Madrid / New York which all have a fantastic nightlife have a huge amount more going for them, so up's and down's in tourism don't effect the economy to such a degree.

 

Why do you think they've effictively decrimilised all drugs?, in Ibiza. If the large influx of clubbers don't happen, then the owners /promoters have two choices, Charge more to cover costs, from the (smaller) number of people that come or charge less in the hope of attratting larger numbers. Either way you are diluting the atmosphere & hacking people of. Or packing shite places out.

The TV has a lot to do with it. Unless people involved don't know they are being filmed they won't behave normally in front of cameras, all this reallity television is bollocks. The image they want to portray is one that will attract viewers, and that's it. They don't gibve a [censored] what happens locally as a result of the film. The image they portrays does put a lot of people off.

A girl might flash her tits, or lift her skirt, in front of a camera when in real life, she wouldn't dream of doing that. Or would think nothing of getting on her knees and sucking a guy's dick in public. Either way they wouldn't film her because not flashing her tits is boring, and giving someone a blowjob in public is unbroadcastable.

I worked with some of the people that the book "is harry on the boat is based on". I've also worked withsome of the real life reps/ managers you see on the telly. Believe me it was/is much much worse/better than anything described. Either in the book or def on the telly programmes. Again, a rep saying she has gone back to the same resort from the age of 19 to 26 and is marrying the restaurant owner that she befriended, during her first summer is boring. A Male youth programme (club twenties ect) team leader letting himself be be filmed snorting coke of the bellies of two new guests, who's faces he has just spunked up all over shotly before going round all the bars, he will take the bar crawl to, to pick up his bribes isn't going to happen on the telly either.

 

Ibiza will keep going for years. But will probably never be as good as it was in the mid to late nineties. Loads and Loads of people who run the businesses are desperatly hoping that we ('the punters') don't catch on. Mixmag did a ten page spread on why Ibiza is as good as it always was, for [censored]'s sake, Wanker Jules lives there!!..What I'm saying is that we (the deddicted house music lovers/clubbers) should start to at least think about an alternative destination. So when we are in our forties/fifties like Okaie, and all the other DJ's we can look back and say we were there when it was at it's peak!!
