announcement made on www.garlandsmademedoit.com

GUYS I WELL GARLANDS NEEDS YOUR HELP

For 8 years garlands has been a safe environment for gay clubbers thanks to

the open minded nature of the clientele. However, since moving out of the

darkness of Eberle Street to the bright lights of Dale Street, the minds of

the Liverpool police force have narrowed somewhat. We have noticed that the

police have been targeting our club and our clubbers. Could this be an

attempt to drive a gay scene back underground and out of sight into an easily

containable ghetto? As one of the safest and well clubs in the UK why else

could it be? Do they not like the sight of drag queens giving out sweets in

public view or camp voices being heard on Dale Street. Gone are days when

Dickie, Sian & Amber felt safe enough to have 'Drag' races or camp karaoke

just to entertain the queue. The police heavy handed tactics on our club and

clubbers needs to stop now. This is the official start to the OUT IN THE OPEN

campaign whereby I'm asking all fans of Garlands, regardless of sexuality, to

sign this petition asking the police to 'LEAVE US ALONE'!!! Make your voices

heard here by leaving your comments. Sign up by typing in the message 'LEAVE

US ALONE' then adding any other message you may want to add.

THANKYOU GARLANDSBOI

I'm not being funny, but this is all a bit vague, before I sign any petition I'd like to know more about what's been going on.

For 8 years garlands has been a safe environment for gay clubbers thanks to the open minded nature of the clientele. However, since moving out of the darkness of Eberle Street to the bright lights of Dale Street, the minds of the Liverpool police force have narrowed somewhat. We have noticed that the police have been targeting our club and our clubbers.

What do you mean 'targetting our club' ? What exactly has been happening ?

Could this be an attempt to drive a gay scene back underground and out of sight into an easily containable ghetto? As one of the safest and well clubs in the UK why else could it be?

Are you saying the police are only targetting the gay members of the club ? Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I'm aware, Garlands is a gay/mixed club. If the police are 'targetting' all members, implying that police are 'gay-bashing' is jumping to conclusions. What else could it be ? Illegal drugs may have something to do with it.

Do they not like the sight of drag queens giving out sweets in

public view or camp voices being heard on Dale Street. Gone are days when Dickie, Sian & Amber felt safe enough to have 'Drag' races or camp karaoke just to entertain the queue. The police heavy handed tactics on our club and clubbers needs to stop now.

Explain these 'heavy-handed tactics'.

sign this petition asking the police to 'LEAVE US ALONE'!!! Make your voices heard here by leaving your comments. Sign up by typing in the message 'LEAVE US ALONE' then adding any other message you may want to add.

I understand the situation here and have seen it for myself.

Im straight and the gay aspect of garlands doesnt bother me at all, garlands encourages people from all walks of life through its doors and this is what im imppressed by.

people are scared of whats different and that will never change but you can count my name against the petition as its a step in the right direction!

I agree with Beaker here. I've been to Garlands loads of times and have always had a tremendous night out. The Bouncers are friendly, whilst being careful who they let in. Everyone in there, both gay and straight is cool. As Beaker says people are scared of what they don't know or understand. Predudice like this will not dissapear over night and certainly should not be purveyed by the police, who tend to stand on the moral highground far to often !!

Lash my name down for this too !!! smile.gif

I've been to Garlands and the G-Bar too, and I don't have a problem with clubbers who happen to be gay. I just want to know what happened before making a knee-jerk reaction to some vague post.

Basically what it is stems from the reopening night. There were ques to get in, and in the end the police turned people away (even though the club was not full).

garlands has dancers, transvestites and entertainers walking down the que giving out sweets etc. this was fine when it was on eberle st. people who were on eberle street were either there for the g bar or for garlands. it was tucked away, and no one saw what went on.

now garlands is in full view of everyone ie. is on the main road. the polioce dont like us walking down the que, standing outside having a laugh etc etc. there were times when it wouldnt be unusual to see a transvestite riding a pantomime horse. there is no way the police will let this happen now.

so at the end of the day, the police are trying to stop the whole essence of garlands. this is the problem.

cheers beckie havent been on here for a couple of days and value all questions asked by fred the baddie, i spoke to barry mac friday in gbar and he is backing the campaign, the petition is on most message boards:

www.garlandsmademedoit.com

www.clubtheworld.uk

www.boogietown.net

www.tonightinliverpool.com

already has backing of local dj's and radio stations next stop will possibley be a petition outside the club and maybe see if local press will get involved.

this is something that garlands asked me to get involved with and something that i think if it continues may kill off garlands, liverpool has already lost cream a huge blow to liverpool and the police gave them alot of trouble, think one of the main problems is the fact that garlands has now become the cities biggest and best club, i agree garlands needs the protection of the police, but dont think there is a need for them filiming week in week out moterbikes, horse mounted police.

thanks for the support showen so far ooo.gif
