I've got an interview for a job in Amersham on Monday and was wondering if anyone knows what its like living down there ? How far is it from London and how expensive is it ? If I get the job, I would be up-rooting from the Sunny North West and moving down there ... scary stuff !!! ooo.gif

Amersham is on the outskirts of West London, just about where the A40/ M40 meets the M25.

Very pleasent...loads of really rich people live round there, in big houses. Car is essential, unless u are just staying in Amersham, and commuting into London. There's other villages around Like the Chalfont's, Rickmansworth, but they are all quite a way from each other.

On the tube it's 45 minuites to the west end, on the train about 1/2 hour.

The main road to Amersham from central london is the A40. Which can be a 10 minuite journey to / from hammersmith (where it starts effectively) or can be an hour or more in rush hour.

The area is def not cheap, having said that i've never rented there so who knows!! but its the western commuter belt - big time.

You could live in west london proper...Hammersmith / Ealing / Acton, and commute out, which would probably be better for your social life, and wallet + you'd be going against the traffic. + Fred lives in Ealing so u could go round his house for tea!!...It's probably what I'd do in the circs.

NB the North west is not in my experience ever Sunny. Normally cold and wet even in the summer!! laugh.giflaugh.gif

Good luke with the Interview!!

...Fred lives in Ealing...

This is true, but not for long. Give me a month and I'll be in my new flat in posh Chiswick, as befits someone of my poshness !

Chiswick's a wicked area - i used to have to drive down the Chiswick High Road once or twice a week - and i can tell you now, it must have more bars / small clubs per sq. mile than anywhere i've seen !

Possibly a future CTW drinks meet-up one night maybe ?

Lot of birdage frequent down there aswell - there you go Raymundo - bliss. tongue.gif

Meet up sounds good to me. Considering I [censored] at 414 Chiswick High Road, should be too far to go for an after-[censored] drink ! laugh.gif

It's that big black glass building if you were wondering ...

Cheers for that Big_ee69 !! grin.gif

I've got my interview tomorrow and have got a 200 mile drive down in the morning to get there by 3:30. I had a quick look at house prices down there and they are rather expensive. I think that I would probably stay in a hotel for a few weeks to suss out the area and then probably rent somewhere prob sharing with other people, given that I know no bugger down there. As a rough guide what should I expect to pay to rent a flat or a room in a shared house in London ? confused.gif

Its a bit scary all this cos I'm gonna be leaving all my mates and family !! frown.gif

I had to do all that when I moved from the NW down to Oxfordshire... It feels a little odd at first, but you soon meet new people and get to know the area.

I stayed in a B&B for a bit (office paid grin.gif) until I found somewhere to rent (shared with someone from [censored]). House prices are crazy down here... mad.gif !

Renting in London completely depends on which area you want to live in, what the size and state of the house or flat is, how many other people you are sharing with. You can pay anything from £200 per month to £5000 per month.

Best thing to do, as you say, is stay in hotel / stay with a mate and then start hunting when you get here!!

Tip, To get to Amersham , i would check traffic master, and come, M6, M5, M42, M40, Amersham is J2 M40.

Good Luck M8

Don't know if this is of any help, but I pay £450 a month. I live between Hanwell and Southall, which is right on the London/Middlesex border.

This is probably a bit cheap, as my landlord is a mate from Uni.
