I doubt the police thought it was that bad an idea handcuffing a violent ex Para, considering the kind of training that fella's been through. For personal safety I'd want a ex/soldier handcuffed, who was acting violently for what ever reason, even if he was injured.

 

I don't like the Polices attitude in general and this case sounds a bit dodgy to me, but I'm trying to look at this in an unemotional and unbiased way (not strictly possible, I know).

I totally understand your point about handcuffs Alex but they should have also checked him when they took him out of the van. God knows what happened to him between the van and the station for him to have his trousers down and mud round his thighs. Maybe he struggled.

 

He was limp when they dragged him in though and the sounds of him chocking on the floor and then silence was disturbing.

 

Only when he died and they realised what had happened did they do anything.

oh for sure me too, not having seen the programme or know all the facts etc, but it is worrying to think that a lad died in police custody, it could be the hospitals fault also for releasing him, who knows!!

It should face an inquiry and if it changes Police procedures during these events then hopefully no one else will die in custody.

but as you say you saw footage, that tells us he was clearly mistreated & either way, the guy died, so something is a miss

I saw it and there is no doubt that they should be on a charge on manslaughter, neligence or whatever charge is appropriate.

 

They basically left the guy lying on the floor, made rascist remarks and made no attempt to see if he was ok...

 

even when they finally checked and he had stopped breathing they were in no hurry and acted as if they didn't care.

 

They were right to handcuff him, but thereafter they clearly failed to prevent his death.

My brother was cooking whilst drunk in my brother in laws kitchen, and set the kirtchen alight , though he had never been in trouble with the police before, he got 6 years for arson, they used him as an example to arsonists, but my brother is not an arsonist, but the police exaggerated that he was dragged out of the house being violent, but he was handcuffed....

So why did the police think he would deliberately try to burn down your brother-in-law's house? What was his supposed motive ... was there anyone in the house at the time ... or did they reckon he was trying an "insurance job"?

 

(I'm genuinely curious, but forgive me if I ignore all the subjective comments about whether the police exaggerated his violent behaviour, and whether you personally think he did it deliberately...)

Because all his friends who made statements, some of them where twisted around, so the witness could nto do nothing about after, they thought they were helping my bro, but in fact there were helping the police, the police said in there reports that he was coming out of the house kicking, and trying to fight the police, but in fact it was seen that he come out of the house sat on the grass in a calm orderly manner, but the judge had no time and decided to use my brother as an example, he had never comitted a crime in his life, he was 22 and did have a drink problem, and the neighbor of my brother in law had it in for my brother since he was young and he made a statement saying he was making the fire worse as though he had set the kitchen alight, i was the first person after the police went inside the house and to me you could see he was cooking coz the frying pan was being used and there was food on the side.....
