[ Suggestions Please ] - How can we make CTW cover more genres ...

Recommended Posts

I get quite a few comments, PMs, SMSs and emails from people accusing CTW of looking like its just "HardHouse" - as you know this isnt the case, we have members into all sorts of genres but I must admit quite a lot of the events posted are in fact HardHouse/HardTrance because Sarah and I happen to be into those genres the most.

But ... I am also personally into other genres such as Funky House and Drum n Bass and I am keen to change the look of the site slightly so it doesnt look 'too' Hardhouse-Only orientated. This is a difficult one as you "cant do everything" and to be honest most of our members are right now into HardHouse/HardTrance so I guess its kinda stupid to try and cover all genres right now but i'm really just looking to the future ...

Not only should CTW cover a wide variety of genres in terms of pictures/reviews etc.. but it should also cover (well, its my long-term dream at least!) several other major clubbing cities across the world. I personally would love to go on the site and see reviews/pics for clubs I intend to visit on a planned holiday - e.g. Miami...

If you have any suggestions I would appreciate them as I'm currently designing a new/better back-end database and want to try and cover any ideas we have for longer term now so i dont have to go back and change the design at a later date (which can be a right pain in the ass).

One idea is to perhaps have seperate forums for suggestions events by genre - e.g. "FunkyHouse Suggested Events" etc... or even an entire seperate community/message board - or should this be seperated by country etc... who knows - obviously we want to keep everyone together but it could get to a crital mass whereby there are just so many people and posts going on that its all too difficult to use / filter out the bits you are interested in.

Any advice would be appreciated - especially interested in comments from those who are outside the UK such as Alasdair and Belle etc...

Trance, Hard House, Funky House, Drum & Bass, Techno etc all provides variation, I think its good that one week you can go Hard House and then the next you can go Funky! I am now to be abused - I actually did like the Funky Room at Sundissential once it got going, you cant beat a bit of funky!

as people know i do also like my funky - well lets face it its a totally different genre for totally different situations - more of a social genre and a good 'person' pulling (ooo look, 'PC') genre.

If there is anyone who can make suggestions / wants to get involved, like FTB has, in providing info on other genre nights to those we are doing let me know !

I think we just need more people to cover the other genres. I know my stuff where hard house / hard trance is concerned but wouldnt have a clue when it came to other genres of music & theres not going to be a lot of point promoting something i know nothing about.

If anyone wants to organise nights out to other clubs covering other music then i think that is the way forward in introducing them.

To be blunt, it depends on what the majority of the members want and where most of the members live.

I could suggest a techno night up here in Ecosse but not many people would come up, both firstly for the distance and secondly because it's not what the majority of people like on CTW.

Stick to things as they are for now - the community works really well (as far as I can see although I haven't even done a CTW meet-up yet!), the odd non-HH event crops up pretty often, and anyway I'm hopefully coming to London in mid-January with the intention of going to Fabric so it could be a non-HH CTW meet in the making? Just a suggeztioni.

yeah, well I love going out to bop to a little d n' b and have seen some great dj's. However, I tend to stick to a night in my fave club which is tucked away on a side street in Cardiff, absolutely amazing atmosphere but no-one outside of South Wales would know of it.....although it did make mixmag's best up and coming nights a few issues ago........even though it has been running for a fair few years now!

I think it would be difficult to try and get people to a place they have never heard of!

I would always be up for going anywhere to different nights. Am obviously swayed somewhat as to what type of music is played rather than big name Djs. I have to plan plenty of time in advance though as am already committed to promoting for certain clubs so dont often get chance to have a weekend doing what i want to do or going where i want to go.

This is true to a certain extent hun, but i tend to shy away from the more mainstream DnB - not really into all of the '2-step' stuff that's about - i'm more into my beats, and to be honest, not everyone would like the stuff i like/ the nights i go to, but i will quite happily do more posts on some DnB nights.

I will also try and blag a few guest lists so any CTW members that are interested can come along for a night out 'raving'.

Fred's UrbanTorque is good example of a non HH meet up that loads of peeps will be going to.

I think it's just a question of having the night pinned at the top of the post, or as James says having seperate forums for seperate genres.

Also need a fair amount of co-orrdination so we don't have clashing events in the same geographic location heavily promoted for the same night!!

nice one Nick - keep me and the board/rest of the members posted on DnB nights!

Anyone think we should have specific genre sections - or is this too soon ? Perhaps something to think about later on...
