I gotta say that although i generally dont know a lot about the music u talk about all the different bands etc.... i do have some music in mp3 form such as the disturbed, linkin park, goo goo dolls, everlast, executioners, saliva and the like... im one to think if i like a song on its own merits that i like it no matter what genre it is, i also have music from way back when in the 70's, 80's and 90's along with some cheese and some soppy [censored], RnB and others.

Just cos i love hard house, hard trance and house most, doesnt mean to say its all i listen to!! bigsmile.gif

Alright Scream

that was the band I was telling Andypandy to keep an eye out for Monday on his welcome thread... it is quality that song they have out at the moment... might have to get the album me thinks.

As much as I loved Nirvana... I've never been a massive foo's fan like their earlier stuff and not much of theirs since although I must admit I like their one out at the mo.

Shenlong I agree with you mate... I like both still... dont understand peeps that seem to think you have to be one or the other... I could be as happy in a live gig as in a club as long as either the band or the dj know how to do their stuff... best respect goes to bands that try and close these barriers and actually try and have dance music and indie mixed together... bands like Lost Prophets for instance mental punk with the help of dj's which they bring it all together magnificantly!

After all all the genders of music are all influenced from each other... clubbing kids sound so stupid that dismiss music like rock and punk as early dance music was actually inspired from such music!

I'm curious about this statement:

clubbing kids sound so stupid that dismiss music like rock and punk as early dance music was actually inspired from such music!

That just simply isn't true

i agree with claire; im generally into punk/metal/rock music and people who see me are surprised im into some trance/techno music.. and in some cases.. hard house *thanx to claire* but id be pretty shallow if i dismissed dance because its not like my general taste in music. i wouldnt date a guy whos into dance though.

not just boyz fun!

Colin

Soul influenced and progressed into early house or club music and peeps got a bit bored with it then peeps came along that was interested in stuff in the 70's like Pink floyd for example and that major influenced them to do stuff like acid house in the same way... just carries on like that...

true fact mate

all music inspires each other. It's strange where you can get your inspiration from.

I mean my music playing ability is wide, i can play from brass, wood, string to digital. I'm just so musically talented, lol.

And inspiration wise can be anything. I have to agree with claire dawn you're view on not dating someone that likes dance is short sighted, but hey that's you're view.

Pfft! silly girl tongue.gif

And what i meant about people going from rock to dance, was that i just noticed a few people on this thread who said they were into rock but were now mainly into dance music, rather than vice versa.

Comfortablynumb, nice to see someone ehre who who's equally into both thumbs.gif And i agree partly about rock bands who use djs and stuff, if done well like lost prophets then it's good, but then at the other end of that spectrum you haev limp bisket puke.gif

Colin very true mate... but that was just one of the influences that house evolved from...

here I found this its a small snipit take from a book and about the original founders of early house with the likes of Lord "Larry Levin" *bows head*

______

It almost goes without saying that over the Garage's ten-year existence the music Levan played varried wildly. Though essentially underpinned by underground disco, from the lush music of Salsoul to the more electronic sounds of 'D' train, Levan's sets could also incorporate anything from rock and reggae to strange electronica and upbeat R&B from Chaka Khan and Gwen Githrie. 'He played what I felt and the time was across the board, from Queen to [The] Clash, you know, he wouldnt just play one sound or one style, he'd drop in disco and various different rhythems, Says Paul Oakenfold. 'It was just a unique experience.' Mike Pickering, who visited the club in the early eighties, concurs: 'There was no hard and fast rules that it had to be this, there was no purist rubbish, which is all that you really had in England at this time.'

Yea, of course, many artists were influenced by all kinds of different genres including rock and punk but dance music was never 'inspired from such music' as you put it.

If you listen to a house music today, you still have the high tempo 4/4 beat found in disco records years ago - that is a BIG influence - rock or punk has contributed nothing in that respect. They are worlds apart in musical terms.

So when us 'clubbing kids' dismiss music like rock and punk, it's not because we are narrow minded or anything, it's because we don't like it and we're thankful for a having a musical genre that caters to our tastes. wink.gif

I think you would be suprised about how many modern artists were influenced by the early 80s electronic stuff such as Gary Numan and Kraftwerk, who I think came more from a rock type direction than a soul direction.

I find a lot of a "metal" attitude in dirty house. Lab 4 are from a metal/industrial background, and I love it when they play a really dirty set.

But, at the end of the day, I don't give a feck about its roots, all I care about is how good it sounds, now crank up the volume.
