this true mate its a big influence but house music means more to me than just a high tempo 4/4 beat mate... it used to be about pattern changes... mood swings... feelings... emotions... and most of all singing... maybe such music like rock, punk reggae, soul has contributed as in the main 4/4 beat as you say but then you have to remember dj's done this by just sticking a rowland drum machine on in the background.

trouble was dance music moved on so much some dance music of today has just forgot about all that... and come out with the same repetative crappy beats... which has lead to where... dead end

And saying Rock, Punk or indie hasn't inspired any house music... I'd like to ask a few original house music dj's on their views on Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Charlatans, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Depeche mode, Simple minds and ask them how many of these bands inspired there music... you might be suprised.

And and even bigger influence than disco as much as some people might not like to admit was ecstasy and acid... pshycedilic drugs wasn't really associated with disco... I'd also add there is more to Disco that a 4x4 beat... we could go on for ever couldn't we and no one is wrong but believe me dance music has many roots.

quote:

So when us 'clubbing kids' dismiss music like rock and punk, it's not because we are narrow minded or anything, it's because we don't like it and we're thankful for a having a musical genre that caters to our tastes.

yes that fair enough... but always look to your roots as well and be open... music is even better with an open mind ;)

Edited to add

ahhh Kraftwerk... nice post Blink... I might have been able to have said it as clear as that if I wasnt so bleedin stoned now! ;)

Totally agree, Drugs were a big infleunce but that's not a musical influence is it?

80's electronic music? Yeah sure and and was is dance music? ... 90's electronic music perhaps?

Kraftwerk? of course ... the pioneers of Techno ... hardly rock or punk.

The indie bands you mentioned ... Nah! And the sex pistols? the most over-hyped band ever ... I mean there music really was [censored]!

... in my opinion that is wink.gif.
