Depends exactly what you mean. If you're literally just talking about production skill, I'd probably say Chab, a Swiss progressive house / deep house / trance producer. He has done some outstanding tracks, and some average ones, but all of them are impeccably produced.

Yeah man, gotta agree with ya there!

Got a few Progressive tracks by Chab and the production is outstanding. His use of percussion is top quality and his tracks sound really 'haunting' if you can understand that! grin.gif

My favourite producer though has to be, erm, Producer AKA Luke McMillan. Ok, not everyone's cup of tea but give his tunes a listen and you be blown away by the production involved. I have yet to be let down by any of his productions so far whether it be Hardcore, IDM or Techno (Yes, Techno!).

just have to dig this back up.........

After hearing the new album (Always outnumbered, never outgunned) It has firmly set Liam howlett as THE best producer around in this day and age. Everything is so fresh (yet again) the sound ie the musical content is just what the music scene needs, but most of all I cant get over how much impact the tracks have. They all sound massive, they just hit you right in the face.

Other producers, take note.

this is how it should be done.

after reading this i had to have a listen to it (properly i might add)

agreed he is a VERY talented producer and has made some groundbreaking albums. very much in a niche of his own making.

i think the new album is shit. and by that i dont mean a let down or patchy. just plain shit. well produced and (its always gonna be) well mastered to sound HUGE as were all his albums, but the tracks are lame and its totally forgetable.

i was looking forward to hearing an album by him with out without the dancer hanger-ons, thinking he could break his own mould, but found myself very unmoved by the whole affair.

it certainly wont win him any new fans and i think given time with it it will be seen as a let down by his current fans.

i think the aphex twin is a much more creative and talented producer by the way(but he doesnt have to try to be as accessable as mr. howlett)

I think Matt Darey is on a technical level well beyond most. Not only that musically he is a genious. He can do any style of music to a standard of brilliance.

Oh and Chab is amazing, Chab works more under the name Moogwai, which is his big Trippy Trance alias. His tracks are so original and space age. Labyrinth (Part One) is fantastic it reminds me of some Vangelis would do.

Thats a fair enough point on a personal level.

I just like the direction he has taken for this album, I do agree that maybe he will lose fans on this album and then maybe not make many new ones in return, but that means fuck all to me. I really like this album. Again its just personal taste I guess.

I love the prodigy but bought the new album and have turned it off after six tracks because it is poor.

it's just a selection of beats and samples which maybe goods but none of them actually stand out as tracks or sounds... in fact it's almost as if he is deliberately trying to make stuff that isn't conventional 5-6mins worth of tune.

not remotely impressed so far by Mr Howlett...

sorry.

Laurence, your post was edited as it was way out of line.

id say DJ Tiesto.

n u all go 'uhhh he just choosin him cos the guy got voted no.1 n he just glory huntin....'

but i say no.gif !!!!!!!!!!! i liked tiesto before i knew that.

in the days of the original "Flight 643" followed by the "Lethal Industry" and others, i began to notice the way his tunes stood out from the rest, and i liked them and admired him for it.

i also believe that he is a great DJ, like in the clubs playing music. his mixing style seems to stay close in music genre to his own records. n then when i found he was voted no.1 in the world, i was happy for him, and quite pleased that there are more ppl in the world that like Tiesto enough to vote for him the best grin.gif

Go Tiesto! The King of Deep Trance!
