Then all members will be able to upload pics etc...

 

Only issue is that it resides where the forum is (i.e. on Invision's own servers as I host them there). Only got 100mb space at moment due to cost so will probably up that a bit for user galleries but still have main CTW gallery (using ImageFolio) on my own server (hosted at IpowerWeb).

 

Can anyone think of any better way ? Unfortunately I cant have the gallery hosted on my machine (well, not at least until I move the gallery to my box - but then I dont think it will run as fast and we will have security & backup issues as before lol)

securety issues shouldnt be a problem if you've set you box up correctly (i'm gessing u have a linux box)

 

if in doubt, ask a hacker to sort it for you

 

as for the gallery. maybe keeping the baord files on invision but putting the gallery on yoursever and appointing 2 moderators for it who uplaod the files and sort it all out for you. people that have baordband and are always around so people can msn them the gallery files?

yeah i know mate - but its all about time etc.. i cant really be arsed with pissing around with firewalls etc lol ONE day I will get to sorting that all out but its not really an area which interests me - i'd rather get on with adding content etc. But if anyone wants to help out ....

This topic is really about whether I should go for this new integrated gallery - then no one will have to send me or anyone else files - they can do all the uploading and captioning themselves..

 

I can buy a mod for around $99 for ImageFolio that allows users to upload but..

1) the user accounts wont be the same

2) its no way as nice as the invision gallery mod - although I prefer the templates on the existing gallery (have still yet to finish them too doh)

 

Decisions, decisions !

 

I think I'll opt for what other sites do in either case - 2 galleries...

1) ClubTheWorld Gallery

2) Members Gallery

when your talking about webhoasting, its something you should think about sooner rather than later.

 

its a classic case of "i've been meening to bakc up my phone numbers for weeks now" just before your phone gets knicked

No mate, hosting is sorted - I have my own box now as well as Invision's server - this is really just about what to put on where.

 

I am very happy with the forums hosted by Invision as they ..

 

1) have been optimized for performance

2) Do nightly backups & restore when asked

3) Very good support - and free

 

Basically when the forums go down I dont have to worry about it (i'm at work anyway, which is why it took so long to get them back up before) - they are instantly on the ball.

 

I'm just wodering whether to take this one step further and host the lot with them - albeit more expensive, but then you get what you pay for.

 

iPowerWeb are also VERY good in terms of price (500 GIG trans a month and 5GIG space for ONLY $49 - cant be beaten) - but support costs $$$ and they are not as quick.

 

Basically at the moment I've got the best of both worlds - but obviously paying for 2 servers - but then its piece of mind that the important stuff is backed up etc.. on my behalf ... (basically the site should end up running itself - well apart from content and moderators !)
