when you double down your stake is doubled and you receive one more card only.

you would probably always, for example, double down on 11 if you can.

Personally I'd suggest...

Always doubling when you've got 11

Only doubling on 10 when the dealer has a 6 or less.

NEVER double on anything else.

Gambling is a bad habit.

My teenage daughter has been kidnapped, and the people I work with may be involved in both.

I'm Federal Agent Jack Bauer and this is the longest day of my life...

Why would I hand out bad advice on a game plyed with imaginary money?

Anyway, thats the way that most "proffesional" blackjack players play,

that's pretty good advice but conventional wisdom says it's a little more complex than that smile.gif

it goes like this:

Double if the dealer has a 5 or 6, otherwise hit fs you have 8

Double if the dealer has 2-6, otherwise hit if you have 9

Double if the dealer has 2-9, otherwise hit if you have 10

Always double unless the dealer has an Ace if you have 11

Double if the dealer has 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9; otherwise hit when you have 10 (made up of two fives)

I dont see the point of doubling if you've got 9 or less, you only get 1 extra card and as its computer generated you're probably gonna get shafted.

Working in a casino does give you some pretty good insight into the game aswell.

So am I and I work in a casino, but you can only double down on 9, 10 or 11 in English casinos.

As a player you can play by any rules you want though, best advice would be 'do what you think is best'.
