if you can access the net, there is a little utilty available from Kazaa or Emule (or any other peer to peer system) that will allow you to change the activation key on your windows xp to a valid number.  Run a search in kazaa or emule for "XP Key Changer" and download the most popular one.

It should have instructions in the package. if you have problems downloading one i can prob upload the file onto this board somewhere and tell you what to do

I tried these and none of them worked!

They do, and are for me grin.gif

Cheers for the replies. Aaron: I've actually got to the state of windows not letting me in, i.e. I can only log onto the net by clicking on a link to the microsoft help website, so I can't run any programs.

Tell it to me straight, I'm fucked aren't I ?

there is a patch you can run!

Which allows you to hide the state of the OS, so windows thinks it is a legitimate os.

I had this, but i dont have it anymore!

If you can get it, i think its called reset 5 . You have to run it in safe mode, and run the patch, then restart, and it should run fine.

I had to reset every few days. It did piss me off, as you cant download updates with it either though!

Just found out I can open any file on my comp in the 'file' bit on IE, so I'm d/l Kazaa (I took it off b4 cause of the extra shit it installs) and I'm gonna have a look for one of them programs. I'll be fucking impressed if I can get it to work !!

If not, I think I'll be back to using ME scratchy.gifthumbsdown.gif

it should give you a list of product keys, and then gives you the instructions you need to change your serial number, its quite straight forward, you dont have to write down the keys it gives you as it opens the serial change bit in another window...

No worries on the help bit grin.gif

What he said.

I've actually got it on my harddrive if you want it. wink.gif

I bought a copy of XP home for my old pc but when I got my new pc couldn't put it on there due to gay activation thingy so downloaded XP pro with a dodgy serial. This mean that you couldn't get the service packs so you have to change the serial number and hey presto it's all go.
