My dad went to de monfort uni when he was in his late 40's.

I never went, or wanted to go to uni. Never interested me.

i'm at St Catherine's College, Oxford - its nice and all but i'm really lacking motivation at the moment. I do Politics, Philosophy and Economics - most of the stuff is uninteresting and irrelevant. I'm starting to feel my time may be better spent elsewhere.

some of the people here are nice, but the majority are very self-interested and/or boring.

I absolutely loved Uni had a wicked time but that was spent mostly down the pub. Could of done without the stress of the final year and having to write dissertations and generally having to do anything contrustrive.

I think Uni was a great learning experience for me too but only in the sense of seeing a bit more of the big wide world and generally having to cope without my parents doing everything. For actually getting a good job in the career I want... well will have to wait and see but I heard on the radio today only 60% of students that graduate this summer will get a graduate level job as there 1st job.

To be honest I was quite surprised that it was even 60%, just in my group of friends that graduated none of them have got into the jobs related to their degree, let alone jobs that are graduate level.

I read something in the times a few weeks ago regarding this, I'll try and dig it up.

The more people that pass Uni, the less chances there are for people to land a job because of their degree and in the area they hoped for.

People in Uni should be a minority not the majority.

But surely if more people have degrees then that is all the more reson to go to uni, as you will be competing for jobs with graduates when before it would've been just people with A-levels etc.

And anyway, uni is not just about getting a degree (although that is part of it, obviously), it shapes and changes you as a person.

Anyway, I am in my first year at KCL (king's college london) studying English with Film Studies (3/4 english, 1/4 film). It has been wicked, apart from my lack of motivation workwise recently, but first year only counts towards 1/10 of my degree anyway.

Soon a Degree will be like having GCSE's and people will have to stay in education unitl you're 35 doing an Uber degree in a hope of getting a job to clear their debts.

Good luck to them.

In the mean time no one, but the most inept are taking up manual jobs.

The focus is all very wrong.

agreed, degrees are two a penny these days & most are just vocational qualifications suped up.

a degree is still worth something though, it shows an aptitude to learn and it does help when getting job.

is it worth the debt for that small advantage though.
